On Saturday, May 5th, The Joy Park Neighborhood Federation hosted their first annual scholarship fundraiser, "A Mother and Daughter Luncheon," at the Joy Park Community Center. The Mother and Daughter Luncheon's theme was "How Does Your Garden Grow?" Dr. Flora Dees, a retired Akron Public Schools educator and founding executive director of Project GRAD Akron, was the guest speaker. James Sneed, president of the Joy Park Neighborhood Association, shared that three students from the surrounding community will be selected to receive a $500 scholarship once accepted to their targeted college or university. Marchele Sneed, the event coordinator, emphasizes the fellowship of mothers with other mothers and mothers with their daughters.
