Hapkido Techniques : Hapkido Defense Against Hook Punch

the aikido elbow joint thing seems over the top..

so .. this is a lesson on how to block and counter a hook punch that is coming towards you at the speed of 0.4KM / hours ?? I know is a demo but dude it S**ks !!

plus, you never see any of the real fighters use these moves in the octagon. so F**k hapkido .. MMA all the way

Ummmm isn't that a roundhouse punch? There is difference between the two the roundhouse is much more telegraphic and is the one shown here.

It also depends on the hook punch itself. That is a hook thrown by a street fighter, an appropriate hook is very controlled and cannot be caught like that since the elbow is at 90* . Also hook punches usually are not an opening technique... then again I think the video shows folks how to defend from regular street fighters not more experienced martial artists... for that you may actually have to take Hapkido and learn every technique so you can defend from a more experienced fighter.

exactly. she just stands there, chin in the air, no intention, a wild open, slow swing.the way to defend against a hook? Cover up and take it or cover up move out of the way. Nothing fancy about that. Korean martial arts S**k so bad.

The way of the intercepting fist, if he was going to punch you someone like bruce lee would kick them before they could even get close enough. Its the most basicly and practical concept. Intercept them

It doesn't take a great boxer to tell you that what they are throwing is not a hook. First of all, the punch is not even being aimed at the opponent. The person receiving the punch could just stand there and the punch would sail harmlessly overhead. Secondly, the punch is more like a wild swing than a true hook. Last point, for a right-handed opponent (most of us humans are right handed) most of the hooks would come from the left hand. So, call the punch what it is, a wild swing.
