Airbus A320 Lufthansa nearly crashed during a crosswind approach on the runway 23 at the airport Hamburg International (EDDH) on March 1st 2008 in Germany. Extreme landing or approach. Crash. Left wing touched the runway. Crazy. Hard and dangerous. Funny landing. Storm Emma 2008 in Germany (Hamburg EDDH). After the landing the left wing was destroyed. Severe cross wind conditions, the aircraft was caught by a gust lifting its right wing up causing its left wingtip to strike the runway.     Well the Airbus has an automated control system in which the pilot cannot cross control the aircraft until 50 feet,so in this situation this gives the pilot very little time to attempt a crab to side-slip.Also, because of the engines slung way low on the wing you cant do an excessive side-slip or your might strike the engine so the landing gear on these airliners can handle some side load if landing partially in the crab.Long story short,winds gusting 40,50 knots,I wouldnt have even tried

    the approach was good dispite the weather conditions.I think what happened is that the rudder kick in was good but he over corrected the columb(joy stick) raising the right wing too much to the wind.

    We had a crash his from a sudden downburst, you never know when the wind is gonna do something crazy. If you look when the wing hits the ground the dirt/smoke really moves off to the left...sure it's not 155 mph but it's still moving and that is a tough gust to deal with. Of course all the keyboard pros could have done it better...sure....lol
