we were cruising at about 580 mph most of the time,but occasionally the pilot would use full throttle to climb through turbulance etc.,and we did 635mph as indicated on the information screen on the seat in front of me.i was very impressed with the aircrafts top speed!!also all pilots of 777 s have been instructed to occasionally use full throttle, because of possible fuel icing(that was the cause of that 777 crash at heathrow)it was -55 degrees at 38000 feet near canada!

635.. Isnt that overspeed.. because i get with flight simulator x overspeed.. more than 500 mph i get overspeed.. maybe the game isnt realistic as that xD

Here in the US, they used to use 747's for transcontinental flights, back in the 70's. That got impractical pretty quick once the energy crisis hit.

Although CAI might be a relatively short hop for a 747, it could be used to CAI because theres a high amount of traffic/cargo, and it might keep utilisation high, instead of having the a/c on the ground

Why do european carriers use such large aircraft for flights to Cairo? Its not really a long haul destination
