Footage of our great american treasure, the bald eagle. Thanks to the Endangered Species Act, bald eagle populations have grown from less than 500 breeding pairs to almost 8000. We owe it to our children and grandchildren to be good stewards of the environment and leave behind a legacy of protecting endangered species and the special places they call home. • I said nothing ...

I said nothing about hippies yelling (which probably does little good), and DDT was not the only thing hurting the eagles. Fact is, the government can do nothing, it's the people who do the work, and they should get the credit. When people make it look like the government does everything, I must respond because I fear someone may believe it.

  • Actually, it was ...

Actually, it was the government and its banning of DDT that is the main reason for the comeback of the Bald Eagle. Not some hippie running around yelling "save the eagle".

  • Ccoraxfan, you hit ...

Ccoraxfan, you hit the nail right on the head. The government a few years ago lightened up on the bald eagle's status, making it easier for rich developers to build on their riverside habitats.

  • barbarossa1530: ...

barbarossa1530: It's bald as in piebald, not bald as in bare! It refers to the color of its feathers. And if you prefer, the other common name is American eagle.

  • The American people ...

The American people have done a lot to ensure the survival and success of our national symbol. The Government, however, which swats gnats with dynamite and hunts dragons with twigs... gets all the credit? Endangered Species Act my foot! It's ordinary Americans who should get the credit, not some stupid law which puts people in jail for picking up a molted eagle feather, but allows people to ruin the bird's habitat if they but know the right people and fill out the right paperwork.

Majestic bird. Great footage, and I love to watch them fish. I appreciate no music, and natural sounds. Very good. Thanks for posting.
