Marc-André Hamelin plays Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody no. 13 in A minor.
Lang Lang is good in one or two pieces (see the Traumerei and Db Major nocturne here). Apart from that, I think he's terrible.

I saw him live at the Walt Disney Hall and God knows that I am never satisfied: I have never ever clapped loudly at a performance before, because being a music major makes me an extremely picky person. However, when I heard Lang Lang, I nearly cried, jumped out of my seat, and clapped loudly, like everyone else. Lang Lang is emotional, no doubt. Hamelin is amazing too: he emotionalizes this without much motion. Lang Lang and Hamelin both are great.

By ccen1 [Affiliate User] 1202506704 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWell actually, i can't say that i can agree with you very much. usually the pianists that tend to move alot when they play, are thought to give the piece more feeling. people such as Hamelin sit still and play just as good however when you see spmeone move it looks like they know what they're doing even more.
TRY listening to him and imagin a pianist
he doesnt PERFORM as such. he just plays. I guess, we will never know whether he actually feels emotion when he plays. if he does, maybe he jsut portrays it differently. Try listening to him. without watching.
just yes, i agree that watching him isnt exciting at all except for his fingers.
If you are talking about that i disagree he does a fabulous job bringing the piece alive, it doesn't need all that chitchat, headbanging and theatral blabber around it.

There r musicians that "headbang" over their keys as if they are trying to dance (i don't like that, its like shooting a rabbit with Bazooka). Do you mean somehing like that? Or do you mean the "tint", the details in the music diminuendo, forte ... all of that?
By cyphontiller [Affiliate User] 1201182041 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removehe has a fantastic technic i have to admit. but he really doesn't put in much emotion in his plying. he can potray every note clearly but he is lacking in terms of musicianship. other than that, his technic is exellent and is a wonderful pianist
By wargreymagic [Affiliate User] 1200318447 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removehe's a hell of a lot better than lang lang that's for sure.
By LongDriveChamp03 [Affiliate User] 1198802608 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThere are lots of people laike you saying hes got no emotion but you just say that because he shows no expresion and hes got a great technic. All fireworks and virtuosismo dont make music, but its posible to make real music with virtousismo.

By predoje [Affiliate User] 1193513591 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeperfectly done. Hamelin is a very smart and hard-working man; he practiced so much that he's as comfortable as possible, you could tell by looking at his poker-face when he's playing the hard parts. he does not show off or twist the music, simple, beautiful, and perfect performance. my greatest regards and appreciation Mr.Hamelin.
