    oh thanks....so except from going higher or lower, there's no other way for a "pilot" to head in a particular way. (assuming that the wind blows in different directions at different altitudes at that certain moment)

    Watch the film again. Watch as the balloons that are at the same altitude are all going the same direction. The wind blows in different directions at different altitudes. In this particular instance, the differentials were good enough to allow some pilots to get their balloons right back to their take off points.
