the song was written by a man, and even though it was made famous by Patti Page the original meaning of the song is the loss of a woman, not a man, so a man or a lesbian should sing it--you will agree that the loss of a woman in some sense gives a different feeling to the song than the loss of a man would for someone, and I think that feeling is the one which fits the rest of the lyrics and the melody, so there!!!!!!!!!1
