They Never Come Back is a hard hitting dramatic story about a boxer with true heart. Itâs also an exploration of the seedy underbelly of 1930s America, from the bloody boxing ring to the shady cabaret. Regis Toomey plays a fighter who tragically loses his mother and then breaks his arm in a fight that night. Down on his luck, he takes works as a bouncer at a swanky thirties nightclub. The club is of ill repute, but Toomey manages to find love with the burlesque dancer there, who is also good natured but has fallen on hard times. Toomey finds a reason to live and, more importantly, to fight. They Never Come Back builds to an engrossing crescendo as Toomey must finally fight the best boxer in town.
The doughty Lyle Talbot stars as the captain of a trio of commandos in They Raid by Night. Talbot and his team must accomplish several daring missions in Europe during the height of World War II. The Nazis are ever present and threaten the Commandos both openly and with spies. But the real danger comes from a double agent femme fatal, the beautiful June Duprez. With Duprezâs information, the Nazis have the advantage against Talbot and his men, but the commandos have their American fighting spirit that cannot be defeated.
The cult favorite The Wasp Woman is a touchstone sixties monster movie. The story outline is familiar: an aging beauty (Susan Cabot) wishes to take a scientists experimental youth serum, which is derived from Wasps, but the serum goes too far and turns her into a monster. What separates The Wasp Woman is the quality of its acting. Going beyond the cheap (and fun!) effects and goofy costumes, The Wasp Woman enchants with good drama that unfolds into magnificently effective horror scenes â once the creature is unleashed, of course. While enjoying the fantastic popcorn fun, donât forget to spot the sexy starlette Lynn Cartwright as a sultry and sassy Brooklyn secretary.
They Meet Again is the final entry in the box office smash âDr Christianâ series. Dr Christian is a good natured and clever town doctor. Jean Hersholt first played Dr Christian on the radio and his friendly Danish accent and humble manner was an enormous success. The character translated well onto the silver screen and six movies were made and well received. They Meet Again continues the series with the same high quality entertainment as the previous films.
