"Where there is uncertainty, I shall bring light
Where there is doubt, I shall sow faith
Where there is shame, I shall point atonement
Where there is rage, I shall show its course
My word in the soul shall be as my bolter in the field.

Doha Film Institute screened its first short animation, ‘Rain’ at an exclusive screening in Katara on Sunday 10th June. It was the film’s first destination before it officially premier s at ‘Shorts Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2012’ in Tokyo, Japan.
‘Rain’, a 13 minute animated film based on a regional folktale from the Middle East, follows the main character ‘Rain’, on a journey into the desert. After a tragic event he seeks refuge in a drought stricken Bedouin camp where he is faced with challenging expectations. Unable to deliver, ‘Rain’ resorts to his spirituality and hope. The film tells a universal story of hope, generosity and a desperate wish.
This project is an outcome of a regional collaboration and a mix of talented animators from different parts of the world with Nitin Sawhney creating the film’s score and Rahab El Ewaly directing.

Check out this amazing personal project CGI short created entirely by Lei Lin! This was a huge undertaking and Lei spent approximately 2000-3000 hours on it. For more information, please see the details and links below:
He did all from the concept art, to modeling, texture, rigging, fluid simulation, animation, lighting, rendering, composite.
He used ZBrush and Maya to create the characters and environments, and Mari for the texture. For the character rigging, I use Maya muscle and Posedeformer and some trick to simulate the skin sliding.
He used Realflow simulate the fluid (water, splash, foam, fog, cloud) and use Maya hair system and shave to simulate the hair and fur.
He used Arnold for rendering with the average rendering time was about 4-5 hours. I have a Dell server (8CPU 4 units), and used nuke for compositing.

Of all the cool, inventive weaponry that could have kicked ass in The Golden Circle, the killer robot dogs, sidekicks to villain Poppy (Julianne Moore), are a total waste of metal. There’s not much difference between one of these toys and the little robotic Poo Chi pets from the Nineties, which might actually have been more frightening. Besides, a killer dog that relies on constant battery charging, and breaks down after chomping on a bowling pin – really?
