Since its founding in 1908, General Motors has built over 450 million vehicles and currently manufactures cars in 35 different countries. To mark their 100th birthday, they rolled out what they are calling the "reinvention" of the automobile - the all-electric drive Chevrolet Volt. The day kicked off with a live global broadcast in Detroit, where the production model of the Chevrolet Volt was revealed. The revolutionary extended-range electric vehicle will deliver up to 40 miles per gallon of gasoline and emissions-free driving for hundreds of additional miles. During the last century, GM has been responsible for many innovations that have helped shape personal transportation - like the electric self-starter, the fully automatic transmission and shatter-proof safety glass. Today, they are looking to the next hundred years by leading the way in alternative fuel technology, hydrogen fuel cell development, Flex-Fuel vehicles and plug-in hybrids. Source: General Motors

BY ALEX OLGIN You're watching multisource US news analysis from Newsy Presidents Day is a day to honor all American presidents, but this year -- The Gipper is tops. That according to a Gallup poll -- which names Ronald Reagan the ‘greatest president’ in history. "Here are the results. Ronald Reagan voted by 19% of respondents as the greatest president. Abraham Lincoln coming in second. Very close Bill Clinton at 13%. John F. Kennedy Junior at 11% and George Washington, the first president, at 10%. Barack Obama came in sixth.” Gallup asked a little more than 1,000 who they thought was the greatest president in history. There is speculation the ‘recency effect’ played a role in the results. USA Today reports Americans have a tendency to name recent presidents because they hear more about them in their lifetimes. "Four of the five most recent presidents are in the top 10 greatest presidents list this year -- Obama, George W. Bush, Clinton, and Reagan.” Politico reports -- not surprisingly -- party affiliation also influenced peoples’ choices. “Thirty-eight percent of Republicans say Reagan was the greatest and 22 percent of Democrats name Clinton. Among Democrats, Obama finished third behind Clinton and Kennedy.” Not everyone is happy with the results. A blogger from The American Thinker calls the poll a beauty contest: “My admiration for President Reagan is second to none but it is far too early to crown him the best president ever.” And an opinion writer for The Pasadena Star News says - no one can top George Washington -- but Reagan was great. “In the end, [Reagan] was a leader, a tough opponent on the world stage, and a great defender of American liberty - something our nation so desperately needs today.” This poll was released on the heels of Reagan’s 100th birthday and a video documentary about his life.
