The North American version of Dark Ages was developed by David Ethan Kennerly. NEXON Corp. also released a few unsuccessful games to the North American audience in beta form which have since been dropped. They include Elemental Saga, QuizQuiz, KartRider and Elancia. QuizQuiz never left beta stage in North America but was later released through the Japanese division of NEXON, NEXON Japan, in a Japanese version. QuizQuiz has since evolved into the exclusively Korean and Japanese. Online game Q-Play, while Elemental Saga was eventually cancelled. NEXON has eight games exclusively available to Korean players such as Elancia, and Crazy Arcade'. In 2001, NEXON Inc. released Shattered Galaxy, published through TriSynergy. Though it had previously won the Seumas McNally Grand Prize at the 2001 Independent Games Festival, hosted through the Game Developers Conference, the game floundered when it was released to retail. It was subsequently maintained exclusively through KRU Interactive. Shattered Galaxy itself was a heavily localised and customised version of its Korean parent game, Tactical Commanders. In 2003, Wizet created a hugely successful game called MapleStory, which eventually had clients in South Korea, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Southeast Asia, North America, Europe, Brazil, Vietnam and players from many other places. NEXON then merged with Wizet and jointly controlled MapleStory. More than 92 million people are playing Maplestory today. It has produced several online video games, primarily MMORPGs and online action games. Most games have used a 2D perspective, including side-scrolling, top-down, and isometric perspectives. Newer 3D titles are currently being published. Although most games are available for free, various gameplay enhancements can be purchased. NEXON is one of the pioneers of the Free to Play model using Virtual Asset Sales to generate revenue. Of a reported $230M in revenue for 2005, 85% was said to be from the sale of virtual items.

BY JIM FLINK You're watching multisource tech video news analysis from Newsy. Mario Kart in 3D? You betcha. Nintendo has just released its new 3DS player -- which is kinda a big deal. So -- why’s nobody talking about it? CVG says -- good question. “Surprisingly, what first takes our breath away about 3DS is the subtlety of the image - rather than any dramatic gimmick. We've always been great believers in the growing prominence of 3D gaming, but Nintendo's glasses-free tech could well represent the tipping point for the technology.” ComputerActive agrees -- and says -- hand-held gaming has never looked like this before. “...its first 'wow moment': moving the console directly above the 3D scene that had sprouted from our desk revealed a hole and in this hole is the final target. This real sense of depth – the illusion of objects being there and you being right in the middle of them – is the 3DS's key selling point.” So wanna closer look? Engadget gives us the tour of both the 3D and 2D options. “What we found is that, in order to use the maximum 3D effect all the way at the top, you need to be holding the 3DS fairly close to your face, probably within a foot. As you get further away from your face, you need to decrease this, and then at the bottom, the 3D screen is completely disabled and this is simply a 2D screen as you can see.” Did he say -- a foot? SlashGear says, whoa -- can you say -- vertigo? “...there are potential health hiccups that Nintendo is being very upfront about. The 3DS startup screen and individual games themselves all warn about long-term use of 3D graphics, suggesting as much as 10-15 minutes rest per half-hour session. We had mixed results … when playing 3D titles when moving … we found ourselves feeling a little queasy.” So is it a win? Or not so much? PC World says -- both, but also issues a personal aside about the bigger picture. “The public demo had the desired effect. My dad was wowed by the glasses-free 3D. But as we left the kiosk, he pulled out his iPhone and showed me a racing game - just as good, he said, and for free. With his Nintendo DS Lite already collecting dust, there's no chance that he'll upgrade.” 'Like Newsy' on Facebook for updates in your feed. Get more multisource tech video news analysis from Newsy. Goal Storm review. Classic Game Room presents a CGRundertow review of Goal Storm for Playstation 1. Back in the early days of 3D gaming, there were plenty of new sports franchises popping up. In the football genre, there were two franchises that set themselves apart. One was the Fifa series and the other was Goal Storm which would go on to help shape into the Winning Eleven/ Pro Evolution series. The game is fairly basic with limited game modes and graphics that are clearly dated. But it has everything needed for a good football game, with strategies and plenty of national teams to choose from. It was an early 3D title but it is clear to see how it would influence sports games into the modern day. This video review features video gameplay footage of Goal Storm for Playstation 1 and audio commentary from Classic Game Room's Ryan.
