I had the opportunity to try out two products the other day that were quite handy and I could see being used in a variety of scenario’s particularly anything off the grid. Be it, in the backcountry or in a emergency scenario and/or power outage. The first and foremost is the The PowerPot® a lightweight thermoelectric generator that converts heat into electrical power. As you’ll see in the video- this is a true “just add water” invention. In our growing central need for our phones and devices (right, wrong, or indifferent) the PowerPot could quiet literally save your life, allowing you to make a call from your once dead phone should a backpacking trip gone wrong. The second product is a little lighter in subject matter, but some would argue just as much of a necessity- coffee. Growers Cup of Amsterdam offers a on the go fair trade coffee option for those tired of Starbucks Via/ or other alternatives while on the road. Ready for the trail, the coffee comes in a pouch with ground coffee at the top and a reservoir for brewed coffee at the bottom. Conceptually the brewing process is very similar to a pourover- hot water is poured over the top of the grounds and coffee is the end result below the grounds. I found working with both of these products very straightforward and excellent overall. The coffee was great and my phone charged quickly and steadily. I’d recommend both product to any adventurer or someone to have around the house in a pinch for power- or for a quick cup of excellent tasting coffee. Reminiscent of true-life survival stories like 127 Hours and gritty animal encounter thrillers like The Grey, BACKCOUNTRY follows an urban couple who embark on a camping trip in the Canadian backcountry. Alex (Jeff Roop) is a seasoned outdoorsman while Jenn (Missy Peregrym), a corporate lawyer, is not. After getting hopelessly lost in the wilderness, and without food or water, the couple struggles to find their way back to civilization. When they enter a predatory bear's territory, their trip turns into a horrific tale of tragedy, will, and survival.
