National Mango Day is July 22. From its origins, health benefits, and how to cut it, here is everything you need to know about the exotic fruit. Mangos first appeared in India over 5,000 years ago and the country is the largest producer of the fruit.
In the United States, mangos are only grown in Florida, California, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. Asia grows 75% of all mangos in the world.
A mango tree can grow quite large, reaching a height of 100 feet with a canopy of over 35 feet. It takes about four to six years for a tree to bear fruit, and it can still bear fruit after 300 years.
There are over 500 mango fruit varieties. Tropical mangoes are related to cashews and pistachios. A firm mango will ripen at room temperature within a few days.
Since mangoes have a large pit, they can be difficult to cut. You can use a mango splitter or cut it on your own. Start out by slicing each side just past the seed from the top of the mango down. Next, make crosswise cuts in the flesh without cutting through the peel, then turn it inside out and scoop or cut it into cubes.
Mangos are very nutritious. They are high in vitamin C, which is beneficial for hair, skin, and eye health. They are also high in polyphenols, which may have anticancer properties. In addition, mangos contain magnesium and potassium as well as digestive enzymes called amylases.
Well, here you go. One of my favorite anime series get it's own anime opening rank video. No worries, an ED theme version will come soon.
