Bunco may not be a household name, but it is rapidly becoming a household game. More than 17 million women in the United States have played Bunco and more than seven million play regularly. Bunco, a dice game based solely on luck, is favored by women as an alternative to "poker night" and makes a great “Girl’s Night In.” Players traditionally use Bunco parties to talk with friends about health concerns and support important causes like breast cancer.
Traditionally, Bunco groups around the country have gathered together and played for a cause important to many women – breast cancer. To continue this tradition, Prilosec OTC has pledged to raise money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation through a charity challenge and is encouraging women across the nation to do the same. The team to raise the most money will win dinner with Naomi Judd and a trip to the Championship in Las Vegas.
New Program Promotes Breast Health Awareness
Ellen DeGeneres is calling on women across the country to join the fight against breast cancer. The star has teamed up with One A Day to promote breast health and early detection.
The "One A Day Women's Wake-Up Call" program gives people the opportunity to send friends and loved ones a personalized "Wake-up Call" from Ellen about things they can do to help support breast health. The goal is to reach as many women as possible by the end of October. In addition, to help fund research and increase public awareness, One A Day is making a donation to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
According to a 2007 Centers of Disease Control report, while awareness about breast cancer is at an all-time high, the number of women over 40 getting annual mammograms is declining. In fact, every three minutes a woman in the U.S. is diagnosed with breast cancer.
