Child ice skating prodigy Irene Dare stars in Frolics on Ice, a whimsical classic film with young love, tons of music, and, of course, ice skating. Irene Dare began her acting career at the age six, and she lights up the screen with cute smirks and then showcases her remarkable ability on a skating rink. Dare’s grumpy uncle (Roscoe Karns) wants to make money off Dare and her older sister, preferably by marrying them off rich. Amidst the songs and the skating, young little Dare sorts out her sister’s relationship problems and teachers her uncle a good lesson. Frolics on Ice is a sweet slice of Americana pie with extra cuteness heaped on top.

BY TRACY PFEIFFER Anchor: Christina Hartman You're watching multisource entertainment news analysis from Newsy After more than sixty years in the limelight, legendary actress Liz Tayor died Wednesday after a long battle with congestive heart failure. She was 79 years old. Born in London to American parents in 1932, Taylor started out as a child star. She went on to win two Academy Awards and three Oscar nods and was the first actress to receive a million dollars for a single part for her role in ‘Cleopatra.’ (Video: WFLD) And with her passing, the media are taking the time to reflect on the beloved and sometimes controversial Elizabeth Taylor. Fox News starts at the beginning... REPORTER, VOICE OVER: “Elizabeth Taylor was only twelve years old when she achieved international fame in the 1944 classic ‘National Velvet.’ ELIZABETH TAYLOR: “If anybody ever sells The Pie, I might as well die.” REPORTER, VOICE OVER: “By the 1950s, the London-born American was box office magic, ranking as one of the top ten movie stars of the decade.” And CNN notes, her personal life was a hot topic in American pop culture. REPORTER, VOICE OVER: “Her highly publicized real-life sagas were punctuated by eight marriages to seven different men, Richard Burton twice. ... Her often tempestuous marriages to Richard Burton, the first lasting ten years, became even more sensational fodder for the press.” ELIZABETH TAYLOR: “I think he’s one of the finest actors in--” RICHARD BURTON: “One of the finest?” ELIZABETH TAYLOR: “Sorry.” But an entertainment reporter tells Chicago’s WFLD: the icon will also be remembered for her activism, which won her a third Oscar. REPORTER, VOICE OVER: “She was really just about the first major celebrity to recognize the AIDS crisis and what she did to raise attention to that disease and to continue to fight to find a cure for AIDS even in the last few years when she was really quite ill.” An analyst tells NBC's TODAY Show, Taylor’s ability to stir up controversy stemmed from her independence and strength. ANALYST, VOICE OVER: “Let’s not forget, this is a woman who -- for better or worse -- was never afraid to shock people. She had her scandalous moments and she shocked the country when she took up with Eddie Fisher, but my point being, that she was used to taking on the public and used to taking on controversy. ... And we are all grateful to her for that.” ABC reports the legend’s family has asked fans and mourners to donate money to the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation rather than send flowers or gifts. We leave you with a final reflection from ABC. SHARYN ALFONSI, REPORTER, VOICE OVER: “But for all her accomplishments, Elizabeth Taylor will be remembered like this. Film preserves an image, and it preserves Elizabeth Taylor as one of the last great movie stars.” 'Like' Newsy on Facebook for updates in your news feed Get more multisource video news analysis from Newsy Transcript by Newsy
