Una multitudinaria manifestación, de decenas de miles de personas recorrió Madrid el 31 de enero de 2009, en defensa y apoyo de la Revolución Socialista Cubana, conmemorando los cincuenta años de Revolución. Cuba ocupa hoy en día el puesto 48 en Calidad de Vida- Índice de Desarrollo Humano, entre todos los países del mundo y ello a pesar del bloqueo al que la someten los Estados Unidos (el más largo y estricto de la historia). A pesar de ese bloqueo, los indicadores de esperanza de vida, mortandad infantil, escolarización, médicos/habitante, acceso a la sanidad, acceso a la energía, acceso al agua potable, acceso a la vivienda, nutrición excelente, etc son los mejores de toda América Latina. Cuba tiene, a pesar del bloqueo, una esperanza de vida igual a la de USA y una mortandad infantil menor que la de ese imperio económico, demostrando que para la mayoría el reparto de la riqueza es mejor que su acumulación.
