Katniss is a 16-year-old girl living with her mother and younger sister in the poorest district of Panem, the remains of what used be the United States. Long ago the districts waged war on the Capitol and were defeated. As part of the surrender terms, each district agreed to send one boy and one girl to appear in an annual televised event called, "The Hunger Games." The terrain, rules, and level of audience participation may change but one thing is constant: kill or be killed. When Kat's sister is chosen by lottery, Kat steps up to go in her place.

MADE WITH WMM- NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED, ALL CLIPS AND AUDIO BELONG TO RESPECTED OWNERS A movie being made (yays) based off one of my favorite books, THE HUNGER GAMES. Decided to make a trailer based on a song I heard, O'Death. Please forgive me for reusing some other footage, my internet is being stupid and won't let me download new. If you haven't read the book, go do it now. If you don't wanna, here's the summary of the book: Twenty-four are forced to enter. Only the winner survives. In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. Each year, the districts are forced by the Capitol to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the Hunger Games, a brutal and terrifying fight to the death televised for all of Panem to see. Survival is second nature for sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who struggles to feed her mother and younger sister by secretly hunting and gathering beyond the fences of District 12. When Katniss steps in to take the place of her sister in the Hunger Games, she knows it may be her death sentence. If she is to survive, she must weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

BY BRICE SANDER ANCHOR ALEX ROZIER You're watching multisource entertainment news analysis from Newsy She’s got looks. She’s got talent. She’s an Oscar nominee. And she’s going to play Katniss Everdeen? In a surprise move, studio execs tapped Winter’s Bone star Jennifer Lawrence to headline the film adaptation of Suzanne Collin’s megahit book trilogy, The Hunger Games. (TV Guide) As soon as Lawrence landed the role, fan feedback flooded the blogosphere. Some people weren’t too excited to see a 20-something blonde bombshell land the role of a ballsy brunette- but a writer for MTV reminds us of a casting controversy that surrounded another film franchise. “And, as many [Young Adult] enthusiasts may recall, fans were initially hesitant to accept Robert Pattinson in the role of ‘Twilight’ leading man Edward Cullen, and now Twilighters can't imagine anyone else as their vampire hero.” So now that Lawrence is locked in, who’s joining her on screen? The rumor is Weeds star Hunter Parrish, Beastly’s Alex Pettyfer and The Kids are All Right’s Josh Hutcherson are duking it out to land the male lead. ClevverTV argues, if fans aren’t too crazy about Lawrence playing Katniss, Parrish could be the perfect consolation prize. “Now fans of The Hunger Games Trilogy have been very open on Twitter about wanting Hunter in the role. This support seems to be very flattering for the Weeds star, who told E! he feels honored to just sort of be thought of. And legit fans will love this, too- he has indeed read all of the books himself, so he’s ready to go.” And Indy Mogul’s Grace Randolph points out the studio might want to steer clear of Pettyfer after his flick “I Am Number Four” bombed at the box office. “But how can Lionsgate be so sure that The Hunger Games will succeed where I Am Number Four did not? Already there are red flags. First, while Collins is adapting her own novels, for the screen, Gary Ross has been chosen to direct. Ross is a famous screenwriter who’s only directed two movies – Pleasantville and Seabiscuit. It’s never a good sign when Hollywood decides to let a favorite son cut his teeth on a big project, instead of getting someone with actual genre experience.” But E! Online asks, who cares about the cast or the director? “We’re talking about children fighting to the death in giant outdoor cage matches, while simultaneously struggling with love triangles and genetically engineered predators. Really. What’s not to love?” Filming begins this summer, but you’ll have to wait until March 2012 to see The Hunger Games hit the big screen.
