The reaction between ammonium thiocyanate and barium hydroxide octahydrate is endothermic. It absorbs heat from the surroundings. As a result, the temperature of this reaction will drop quickly. This causes the beaker used to freeze to the wooden board. In this video, the beaker was able to hold approximately 9kg. *******www.monkeyvsgravity**** Music: Kevin MacLeod

Chemiluminescence of luminol. Two solutions are combined, the first solution contains luminol and sodium hydroxide. The second solution is 0.03% Hydrogen peroxide and potassium ferricyanide. The luminol and the hydrogen peroxide react to cause the chemiluminescence. The iron in potassium ferricyanide is a catalyst for the reaction. This is also used by crime scene investigators. A solution of hydrogen peroxide and luminol is placed into a spray bottle. When the solution comes into contact with blood, the iron present in hemoglobin will catalyze the reaction and it will begin to glow. www.thirstforscience**** If you enjoy this type of video, subscribe! Ice is added to a dry Pyrex bowl. When the Ice melts the water reacts with the calcium carbide (place on the bottom) to produce acetylene gas and calcium hydroxide. The acetylene gas then explodes into flames when a match is place on top. It will continue to burn even as the ice melts because it keeps producing acetylene until the calcium carbide runs out.Kent

All the alkali metals react with water to produce elementary hydrogen and the corresponding alkali hydroxides. The reactivity increases with increasing periodic number. The reactions2 Na + 2 H2O ----> 2 NaOH + H22 K + 2 H2O ----> 2 KOH + H2I got lucky with this sodium reaction, I have never had such a perfect explosion.
