BY CHARLIE MCKEAGUE (Music. Video of Kennedy assassination.) (YouTube) 47 years ago – President John F. Kennedy was assassinated while riding in a motorcade through Dallas. Authorities arrested Lee Harvey Oswald within hours – but he was killed just two days later – opening the door for conspiracy theorists. Now two of the secret service agents who were protecting Kennedy on that day talk to CNN in a rare interview. GERALD BLAINE: “We couldn’t help it. We felt like we failed. We all had the same mission, and it was a terrible feeling.” BRIAN TODD: “Blane gives a riveting new account of that period, in his just released book, The Kennedy Detail. … Clint Hill was the first secret service agent to get to Kennedy’s car in Dallas. He broke into a sprint after the initial shot was fired. He says if he could re-live that moment, and jump on the back two seconds earlier.” CLINT HILL: “Without question I would be taking a bullet for the president, and I would be taking a bullet for the president and I’d be dead.” In an hour-long documentary on the Discovery Channel, one historian looks at why some believe the Mafia was actually behind the assassination -- and it’s a connection to Bobby Kennedy that not many have explored in the past. “It is believed Mafia bosses find in the coup plan a way to stop their real enemy. Not Fidel Castro, but the U.S. Attorney General. Carlos Marcel very colorfully explained if you have a dog, and you cut off its tail, meaning Bobby Kennedy, the head of the dog will turn around and bite you. But if you cut off the head of the dog, the tail will quit wagging on its own. The Mafia developed their plan to kill JFK, and their first attempt was not in Dallas but it was actually planned for Chicago.” And The Atlantic critically examines five popular JFK myths – and lays out evidence to disprove them. The article goes on to say that – if 47 years later we are still talking about it, and uncovering new theories and evidence – the discussion should continue. “…it's a mainstream consensus that these theories have always been essentially the work of cranks, popularized by a national appetite for mystery and entertainment. But for all the crazy ideas out there, there remain sober and careful alternative views of the assassination.” But as almost 50 years have passed – for many it is history and not so much a memory. USA Today examined newspaper coverage of the anniversary of JFK’s death – finding many major organizations failed to include him anywhere on the front page. “Among them: The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, The Boston Herald, The New York Times, the Chicago Tribune, The Miami Herald, and the Los Angeles Times.” But the Dallas Morning News didn’t forget – it ran a lengthy feature – but concluded times are changing at the memorial site as many visitors are too young to remember. "...in the last five years, a majority of our visitors are not old enough to remember … Younger people who are used to greater security measures since 9/11 look at photographs of Kennedy riding in an open car and say, 'That was crazy. Why would he do that?'"

BY ALEX OLGIN You're watching multisource US news analysis from Newsy Presidents Day is a day to honor all American presidents, but this year -- The Gipper is tops. That according to a Gallup poll -- which names Ronald Reagan the ‘greatest president’ in history. "Here are the results. Ronald Reagan voted by 19% of respondents as the greatest president. Abraham Lincoln coming in second. Very close Bill Clinton at 13%. John F. Kennedy Junior at 11% and George Washington, the first president, at 10%. Barack Obama came in sixth.” Gallup asked a little more than 1,000 who they thought was the greatest president in history. There is speculation the ‘recency effect’ played a role in the results. USA Today reports Americans have a tendency to name recent presidents because they hear more about them in their lifetimes. "Four of the five most recent presidents are in the top 10 greatest presidents list this year -- Obama, George W. Bush, Clinton, and Reagan.” Politico reports -- not surprisingly -- party affiliation also influenced peoples’ choices. “Thirty-eight percent of Republicans say Reagan was the greatest and 22 percent of Democrats name Clinton. Among Democrats, Obama finished third behind Clinton and Kennedy.” Not everyone is happy with the results. A blogger from The American Thinker calls the poll a beauty contest: “My admiration for President Reagan is second to none but it is far too early to crown him the best president ever.” And an opinion writer for The Pasadena Star News says - no one can top George Washington -- but Reagan was great. “In the end, [Reagan] was a leader, a tough opponent on the world stage, and a great defender of American liberty - something our nation so desperately needs today.” This poll was released on the heels of Reagan’s 100th birthday and a video documentary about his life. "100th Bay to Breakers" May 15, 2011 -- Sunday *** THIS VIDEO CONTAINS ADULT NUDITY. *** It was raining the night before the event and the forecast was that the marathon was going to be rained out too. The good old sun however, cooperated with the tradition and spirit of San Francisco. This year's marathon started at 7:00 a.m., with seeded runners running ahead of the pack and leaders usually reach the Rose Garden area next to John F. Kennedy Drive inside the Golden Gate Park about 15 minutes after the start of the race. This area is a fine place to be as a spectator. Parking is not a problem at all. There's plenty of spots by the Stow Lake or by the Japanese Garden, and there's a pathway leading to J. F. K. Drive. CAUTION: The "Bay to Breakers" is public event in San Francisco. It is a real race with expressions of San Franciscan spirit. Some runners are professional marathon runners, but most are participants who just want to join the clean fun that can only be had nowhere else but in San Francisco. It is a costume running: centipedes, Elvis, ballet dancers, anything at all or nothing at all... I did not edit the video, hence it contains raw clips of the event.

(Image Source: Wikimedia Commons) BY LAUREN ZIMA ANCHOR MEGAN MURPHY In a new book, a woman who is now a 69-year-old grandmother and retired church administrator claims to have had an affair with President John F. Kennedy -- when she was only 19 years old. Mimi Alford’s book is called “Once Upon a Secret: My Affair with President John F. Kennedy and Its Aftermath.” Alford says she lost her virginity to President Kennedy when she was a White House Intern. The Herald Sun reports she met Kennedy in 1962, when the President was 45 years old. “Alford was invited by Dave Powers, the president's ‘first friend’, to a White House party. She claims her affair with Kennedy began when the president invited her for a personal tour and then took her to ‘Mrs. Kennedy's room’. … ‘I was in shock,’ she writes of her post coital thoughts. ‘He, on the other hand, was matter-of-fact …’” Alford says JFK never kissed her. But for more than a year -- after her internship ended and she’d gone to college -- he called her to meet him in hotels and even flew her to the White House. The Daily Mail has some of the more salacious stories. “ … he 'forced' her to sniff amyl nitrate, commonly known as poppers, during a Hollywood party at Bing Crosby's desert ranch. … She also tells of how JFK asked her to 'take care' of his friends … ' … This was a challenge to give Dave Powers oral sex. I don’t think the president thought I’d do it, but I’m ashamed to say that I did... The president silently watched,' she said.” Alford also says Kennedy asked her on a later date to ‘take care’ of his brother, Ted, but she refused. Sex aside, JFK also confided in her. “ … Kennedy … even asked her to console him following the death of his baby son, Patrick … At the height of the 1962 Cuban missile crisis … Kennedy [told her]: ‘I’d rather my children were red than dead.’” The story ends with JFK’s assassination. The two met for a last rendezvous in Manhattan in November 1963, just a week before he was assassinated in Dallas. Alford was set to marry her college sweetheart. The New York Post has an excerpt. “‘He took me in his arms … and said, ‘I wish you were coming with me to Texas. … I’ll call you when I get back.’ I was overcome with sudden sadness. ‘Remember, Mr. President, I’m getting married.’ ‘I know that,’ he said, and shrugged. ‘But I’ll call you anyway.’ ” Alford’s identity was first revealed in 2003 when another book blew the 40-year secret. She says she never met the First Lady during the entire affair.

Model turned actor James Marsden stars in Lee Daniels' The Butler as John F. Kennedy who is considered the most attractive President we've ever had. However, James says he prefers not to be known for his looks and, in fact, it makes him uneasy. Covering the September issue of Out Magazine he admits he's less comfortable playing the smoldering hot guy and that he'd rather play the goofball. He even says he was the skinny loner in high school. Sorry James, you'll always be the hot guy to us!

On November 8, 1960 John F. Kennedy was elected the 35th president of the United States of America. He won with 303 electoral votes and about 49 percent of the popular vote. But would that be the case with the electoral college of 2016? Would John F. Kennedy still be president if the electoral college of 2016 was the one used in 1960? Would Nixon be president instead?
