Celebrating Liturgy at the Ethiopian Orthodox Chapel, part of the building complex that is the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, is something quite extraordinary. The church claims its origins from Philip the Evangelist (Acts of the Apostles, chapter 8) and became an established church in the 4th century through the efforts of the Syrian Greek Frumentius. Services are held in the Ge'ez language. The Ethiopian Church is one of the oldest Churches in the world. God bless the Ethiopians!

What is more important than the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass? The liturgy is literally "heaven on earth" and provides a daily opportunity to personally experience Jesus in the Eucharist, which the Church calls the "source and summit" of the Christian life. Clearly "it's the Mass that matters"! And now more than ever, it is absolutely crucial that Catholics embrace more fully their role as active participants at the Mass. Fresh, spontaneous, sometimes witty and always insightful, this engaging presentation is divided into three sections, Preparation for Mass, Liturgy of the Word and Liturgy of the Eucharist. Reflections on the Mass will help you grow in your appreciation for the Eucharistic celebration. Order now and prepare for a deeper relationship with Christ through a more profound experience of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
Pius V worked strenuously to reform the Liturgy and the Clergy. Let us invoke him today, in times when the Liturgy is being abused and the Clergy is in need of reform. Ave Maria!
And the light shineth in darkness: and the darkness did not comprehend it.//et lux in tenebris lucet et tenebrae eam non conprehenderunt.../erat lux vera quae inluminat omnem hominem venientem in mundum/...That was the true light, which enlighteneth every man that cometh into this world./
Gregorian Chant is a musical repertory made up of chants used in the liturgical services of the Roman Catholic Church. In fact, the liturgical tradition which the Church has given us is a vocal, monophonic music composed in Latin using sacred texts from the Ancient and New Testaments. This is why Gregorian Chant has often been called a "sung Bible". Linked intimately to the liturgy in this way, the goal of the Gregorian melodies is to favor spiritual growth, reveal the gifts of God and the full coherence of the Christian message.
What we call Gregorian chant today first appears distinctly in the Roman repertory of the fifth and sixth centuries. Its implimentation and perhaps some of its composition was in the hands of a group of ministers in a service specially dedicated to the Roman basilicas, the schola cantorum. Gregorian chant also appears to have been an aural music, that is, transmitted by ear and committed to memory - like all other music of the world at the time.
