Mr. Deepak Sawhney, an eminent Associate Certified Coach (ACC), Member(ICF) USA, facilitator and trainer was a part of Reliance Global Corporate Security - 3rd Forces Get Together. There he bestowed information on Neuroscience of Leadership to the various attendees. His speech elaborately described the influence of cognitive science on our behavior as an individual as well as a leader. The established coach and orator offered the attendees excellent tips to enhance the performance and output of a team and an individual. The gathering was about describing the importance of Neuroscience and Psychology on a person's caliber and accomplishment. He stated his views on how just by knowing the working mechanism of the brain precisely, one can amplify his skills and of others too. This knowledge can provide assistance in performing the different responsibilities effectively as an individual and as a team leader. This, in turn, will help with development in performance both individually and from a leadership point of view and the team as a whole. He said that with a unique neural map each person interprets the things in his way. However, if we follow the working pattern of a brain, we can evaluate another person's way of understanding a circumstance. This will help with developing his performance and lead him towards his aim. The gathering presented perception as to how to decipher the functioning of the brain and observe not only one's thinking but also the level of understanding of another person. Everyone was able to avail from the beliefs of Mr. Deepak. The lecture offered, the several attendees, the way to grow as good leaders by learning how the brain works and the level of flexibility it can present.

Well the old standard just got better - Now researchers have built a microscope that uses beams like those found in barcode scanners to watch single cells in real time. InventorSpot explains why this is a big deal. “The big trick is in the light. The sweep of the Bessel beam creates a very thin light sheet, which is minimally invasive. With existing microscopy technology, it has been possible to observe tiny things in 3D, but not for long -- because the intense light required kills, or severely damages, whatever it is you're observing.” The new illumination tricks let the researchers record cells doing their thing in high-resolution. It lets researchers study the goings-on of cell structures in a way they never could before. The researchers compared it to learning the rules of a sport. Watching the players in a film teaches you the rules quicker than studying snapshots. Likewise, watching chromosomes divide in real time lets researchers learn about the process in much more detail. (Video source: HHMI) Getting the images clear was tricky. Bessel beams create a lot of noise in the image, lowering the resolution. To get around this, lead researcher Eric Betzig had to pull in every microscopy trick he could find. “The first is a concept called structured illumination, where instead of sweeping the beam continuously, they turned it on and off rapidly, like firing a machine gun. ... Another strategy Betzig's group used is two-photon microscopy, a method commonly used in neuroscience to visualize thick pieces of brain tissue.” (HHMI) Betzig has been creating new microscopes for decades, and he’s not done yet. PopSci reports he’s already looking forward to his next innovation. “The next step could be combining the Bessel beam plane technique with super-resolution techniques, Betzig said. That would be something — with no limits on how small we can see, and an imaging technique that take movies without harming organisms, the possibilities seem endless.” One of those possibilities: watching the delicate structures on the famous HeLa cell - a cancer cell taken from a woman in 1951 kept alive today -- in a way never possible before. Scientists at Brookhaven National Laboratory have built a new device to perform PET scans, a neuro-imaging technique, on wide-awake, moving rats. They call it the RatCAP, for “rat conscious animal PET.” It’s a miniaturized scanner rats can wear like a collar. The researchers attached it to pulleys and weights so the rats can walk around while being scanned. (Image source: Brookhaven National Laboratory, Nature) The benefit of PET scans is that it allows researchers to scan the brain in real time. The drawback is that until now the brain in question had to hold still. A writer for IEEE Spectrum explains why this limitation is so frustrating. “Other miniature PET scanners have existed before the RatCAP ... but, as with human scanners, each requires that the animal stay motionless and prostrate. The only way to keep a rat still is to anesthetize it. But by doing this, you alter the animal's brain chemistry just as you're trying to measure it.” The main benefit of the RatCAP is that peering into the mind of a rat on the go lets researchers study how brain chemistry affects behavior. Researcher Paul Vaska thinks this will allow two separate disciplines to come together. “There’s a whole field of neuroscience called behavioral neuroscience where people only look at the behavior of the rat in order to infer the function of the brain. This allows us to actually look at physical processes in the brain at the same time. So there’s a lot of excitement about being able to correlate these two different data sets to learn potentially much more about the brain.” (Video source: Brookhaven National Laboratory) The research is off to a good start. The team used their device to study the rats’ dopamine levels, a chemical tied to reward and motivation. DOTmed explains their findings. “Already, the researchers said they found something new: awake animals had less dopamine activity than the anesthetized animals, even though behavioral activity is generally associated with higher dopamine levels.” The BBC adds: “That the Ratcap is already yielding insights and contrasts with established studies is an indication of the neurology secrets it may tap into.” The researchers said the next move is to scan the rats during mating, but so far the devices seem to get in the way. Maybe it’s not that dramatic--but bath salts are going on the chopping block in many states. Except... they aren’t really bath salts--more like an undercover narcotic sold mainly in convenience stores. Minnesota’s KMSP has the details... ”The drugs are often marketed as incense or bath salts, but they can cause serious health complications--and are blamed for the death of a 19-year-old right here in the Twin Cities. The bill would punish the sale of these synthetic drugs, with fines up to 3-thousand dollars.” The Times-Tribune explains why the drug is such a big deal in the first place, and quotes Timothy Cannon, the director of the University of Scranton's Neuroscience program: “That compound works in the brain like amphetamines, forcing the brain to release an abnormal amount of norepinephrine and dopamine to the neurotransmitters' receptors, causing increased vigilance, aggression and paranoia and even symptoms of schizophrenia.” Apparently the salts are also wreaking havoc on health care workers--Pennsylvania’s WFMZ says the number of cases being treated is on the rise. REPORTER: “The poison control center at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has seen a spike in calls about bath salts.” DR. KEVIN OSTERHOUDT: “We had four calls in all of 2010, we had three in January, and then we jumped to having forty in February and another forty-five in March and they’re still coming in in April.” ...but the crack down is nationwide. Missouri has a bill banning the substance already to the Senate, and it was recently banned in Oregon as well: “A temporary ban on the sale of synthetic drugs in Oregon is now permanent. The Oregon Board of Pharmacy issued a new rule yesterday outlawing the sale of drugs known as Spice and K2 that mimic marijuana. Bath salts that have the same effects as meth were also banned in that report as well. ” (Video Source: KOIN) The drug was outlawed in Florida at the start of this year, much to one resident’s despair. The Floridian wrote an editorial on nwfdailynews--and isn’t too pleased. “Florida’s unemployment rate is far worse than the national average, but so what? Gov. Rick Scott and Attorney General Pam Bondi are embarking on an extravagant, expensive — and probably unnecessary — war against so-called pill mills.” WHTM reports, while some states are going after the bubbly bath salts, it’s still fair game in most of the United States.
