*******ourvideosite****/View/V579 The sign says Built in 1853 and dedicated to Elijah Moore, son of an early settler, this bridge is the oldest covered bridge in daily use in New York State. Constructed at a cost of $800, the distinctive diamond pattern of the Town Lattice Truss is pinned together with trunnels, or tree nails. The roof and siding serve to protect the structure from the ravages of nature. Popular in the 1800's because of plentiful and inexpensive timber, covered bridges or timber tunnels became places for social gatherings. This is the only remaining covered bridge in Tompkins County. As far as the Poor Man's Steadicam (PMSC), this was my first use, and is presented unedited. Pretty smooth up the stairs, although I think through years of practice, I walk on flat ground more steady without the PMSC. This footage is with the camera in the top position of the PMSC.

Singing Cowboy George Houston returns as The Lone Rider in Outlaws of Boulder Pass. Featuring a veteran and excellent cast of western film fame, Outlaws is shameless gun-slinging fun. Smokey Hammer’s (Dennis Moore) ranch is under attack by a band of outlaws. The Lone Rider, with sidekick Al “Fuzzy” St. John, comes to aid Smokey and the gunfights are tremendous. Then the film takes a softer tone as Houston courts the gorgeous Marjorie Manners, crooning tunes like “Let Me Keep Roamin’ the Prairie” and “The Grass is Always Green in Sunshine Valley.” Nothing but enjoyable popcorn entertainment, Outlaws of Boulder Pass is pistol and saddle fun at its best.

Police Rookie is a hard boiled crime thriller from the early nineteen forties that really packs a punch! A rookie cop’s father is murdered, and though new to the police force, the young man takes it upon himself to solve the murder. The film is dark and gritty, and all the more enjoyable for its superb cast. Carried by the emotional and passionate acting of Gordon Jones as the fearless rookie, all the supporting actors give great performances. The usually under-utilized Joyce Compton is particularly stirring in a straight role, and as beautiful as ever. When Jones discovers that the murder is a white collar citizen in good standing, the trail of malfeasance and fraud runs even deeper than the killing of his father. Police Rookie is razor-sharp drama that takes things personally.

Colonel Tim McCoy plays the title role in Lightning Carson Rides Again. A Wild West romp through picturesque countryside, McCoy fills the saddle and the cowboy hat rather well. But what he excels at is busting up gangs of bad guys. A lawman that doesn’t waste his time with varmints, McCoy is out to solve a murder charge that he believes is a frame job. The gang he suspects is Mexican, so McCoy poses as a Latino himself to infiltrate them. The plan is working to perfection and McCoy is gathering evidence – until he’s discovered! All heck breaks loose, and McCoy must battle it out and set things right. Great fights, great scenery, and a great story make Lightning Carson Rides Again a superb Western adventure.

William Boyd, of Wild West fame as cowboy Hopalong Cassidy, stars as an overreaching reporter in Go-Get-‘Em Haines. Boyd trails a big business tycoon aboard a luxury liner. On board, Boyd gets caught up in the festivities which include drunken mayhem and impromptu vaudeville-style shows! But the comedy and goofiness get sapped when a man ends up mysteriously murdered . . . . Then Boyd turns detective and Go-Get-‘Em Haines transforms into an elusive whodunit. A splendid distraction to the Great Depression, Go-Get-‘Em Haines is a superb effort of blending side splitting comedy and enigmatic adventure.

His Brother’s Ghost is an uproarious romp through the Wild West which is haunted in this film! Olympic gold medalist Buster Crabbe, known for his smashing portrayals of Tarzan and Flash Gordon, is given top billing in this cowboy adventure, but the real star is Al “Fuzzy” St. John. St. John was usually Crabbe’s sidekick, but in this film he’s killed early on and returns as a vengeful ghost! St. John clearly loves the role and steals the show scene after haunting scene. But of course there’s still plenty of screen time for the gun slinging Crabbe to blast away bad guys, which is exactly what he does. Funny, fast paced, and explosive, His Brother’s Ghost is a superb vintage Western adventure.

A fast paced and bracing adventure, Desert Escape follows veteran Hollywood star Warren Hull as he busts out of prison and seeks to clear his name. After being framed, Hull cleverly escapes from incarceration and carefully constructs a plan to get the real criminals to confess. Desert Escape provides plenty of excitement, but one of its best assets is the beautiful scenery in Tempe Arizona where the film was shot on location. Touring beautiful Tempe in the late thirties, Hull viciously infiltrates the guilty gang of hoodlums and forces them to see things his way – or else. Desert Escape is a hard hitting endeavor that’s well cast and makes for a fun evening of classic film.
