Today on this 2008 Pontiac G6 we are going to be installing Draw-Tite hitch part number 36426. And this installation will also apply for Hidden Hitch part number 90159. We are underneath the vehicle and we are actually taking a look at the passenger side frame rail, nearest the bumper. At the end, where the frame meets the bumper here, we have an inboard existing bolt and nut assembly. And directly above that, we have an existing open hole. And that open hole we are going to use as the rear attaching point for the trailer hitch, not only here on the passenger side but on the driver side as well. 0:30
So next I am going to go ahead and take the 3/8 bolt leader, that is provided with the installation kit, and go ahead and feed that through our hole in the back side of the bumper. We will next take the 3/8 carriage bolt, along by the 1 by 2 inch block with the 3/8 square hole in it. We will start by feeding the block onto the bolt leader, followed by the carriage bolt which we will take and wrap the threads of the bolt leader around the threads of the carriage bolt. What we are going to do is start pulling that into position. We want to get it fairly close to in position but we do not want to fully pull it through just yet, until we get the hitch up into place. If you are having trouble manipulating the carriage bolt and block, you can access it from directly behind the hole as well. You can get your hand up there just enough to manipulate it if necessary. I am going to leave the bolt leader on and I am going to do the same thing for the driver side. And then we will go ahead and put the hitch up into position. 1:26
And we want to attach that with the 3/8 conical tooth washer. OK, and if you noticed there, I did not put the spacer block in between the hitch and the frame just yet. What I am going to do is go over to the driver side now. And since I have it kind of hanging in position, I am going to go ahead and add the spacer block onto the bolt leader that we had pulled through previously. And then we will just feed it right back through the hole in the hitch. And from there, we will pull it back up into position. OK, and now that we have the vertical bolts in place, we want to go ahead and use the hitch as a template and drill our holes into the bottom of the frame. You will note that the portion that is sitting against the bottom of the frame, you want to make sure that it is clearing this rear edge. And once you have ensured that it has, you can go ahead and start drilling your holes. We are going to need to drill the holes to 1/2 inch. I am going to start by drilling a 1/4 inch pilot hole and then enlarge to the 1/2 inch. If you are finding that on the driver side when you go to drill your holes that the exhaust tube is in the way, you can go ahead and remove the exhaust off of its three rearmost hangers. That will allow it to lower down enough for you to get the drill in there. You do want to make sure that if you do that though, that you put a support strap at the forward side of the exhaust tube. Because, when you do remove it off of its three rearmost hangers, the exhaust will fall down. And if you do not support it, will damage the exhaust system. 3:08
Now that we have our holes drilled here at the bottom of the frame, we want to go ahead and fish wire our carriage bolts and blocks into position. To do that, we are going to be taking the 1/2 inch bolt leaders that are provided with our installation kit. And we are going to take and first feed it through the drilled hole at the bottom of the frame, forward, out through our access hole here. We will next take our 1 by 3 inch block and go ahead and feed it on to the bolt leader, followed by the carriage bolt. Insert it into the frame and pull it down into position. We will be fastening the hitch to the bolt using a lock washer and hex nut. We just want to repeat that set up for the other three holes that we had drilled. And then we will go ahead and start torquing our bolts down. And now will all of the fasteners in place, we can go ahead and start torquing our bolts down. You want to check with the directions to verify the appropriate torque ratings for each of the bolts. With all of the bolts torqued down, our installation is complete. You just want to make sure that if you had lowered your exhaust earlier on that you go ahead and put it back up on its hangers. From the ground to the top of the receiver tube opening is going to measure 7-3/4 inches. And from the center of the pin hole to clear the rear edge of the bumper is going to be approximately 9-1/2 inches. And that will conclude the installation of Draw-Tite hitch part number 36426 on a 2008 Pontiac G6.

So you want to find out who wants to be a catcher? A lot of guys think it’s cool to put the gear on, maybe flash a few signs. Some even may want to try to throw to second base. But if you want to find out who actually really wants to catch, start blocking. Blocking for a catcher is one of the major fundamentals. It’s not normal to jump in front of a ball in the dirt. These baseballs hurt and we must jump in front of them. If you’re not willing to jump in front of these balls, this position’s not for you. Are you willing to jump in front of a ball over here in the dirt, have it go off your forearm and then on the next pitch do it again? That’s a question you better ask yourself before you start catching because this is a major part of our game.
So how do we do it? Blocking always takes place from our stance with a runner on base. So we’re up off our calves, we give a good target. There’s two ways that we want to block. One, were going to drop straight down forward onto our knees. From here, our chest is over the ball, our chin is always down to our chest, our glove fills this hole between our legs and our bare hand, still closed around our finger, is tucked underneath. This is the position we want to find ourselves in. Now here’s where you get hurt. When we drop down and our head comes up, our throat is exposed. This is where it can become dangerous. We always want to have our chin down.
The other part we have to be careful of when we’re blocking is that our hands come up. As a baseball player, were always taught to field a ball with our gloves, but as a catcher, we drop, we want to field it with our chest. If our hands come up we leave a wide open hole between our legs. Now that’s embarrassing. We get a ball go between our legs. We’ve done everything right. We got down to the ground. We’re ready to block it and then it went between our legs. That cannot happen. So fill that gap between your legs.
Here’s the other choice. I just showed you the fall forward here. The other technique that’s used is called the kickback. This was actually the technique I used most of my career. I felt I could read the ball a little bit longer. Here’s what it looks like. We’re up in our stance and my knees are basically going to replace my feet. So from here I’m down and that’s it right there. So from that stance we can cover the ball a little bit better. Let me show you again what it looks like. Our feet are out. Our glove’s behind and we’re down. Our chest is automatically over. That’s what I like about this stance and blocking with the kickback technique is it always kept my chest over the ball. My chin was always down to my chest and I could read the ball a little bit longer. So the next time you get behind home plate and you’re going to block, figure out which technique. But no matter what don’t let that ball get by.
