In your portfolio’s case…it basically means shifting assets…more of this, less of that, getting rid of investments that don’t fit. When do you “rebalance”? The usual major life events: Marriage, Divorce, New Kid, New Job, Looming Retirement. Or say you wanted 30% of your portfolio in bonds…but market performance turned that 30% into 50% of your portfolio. You realign your holdings to restore the balance you want. Don’t do it…and you could have a riskier portfolio than you ever wanted…OR…one that’s slow to produce returns.

Financial professionals offer a range of services. Depending on their qualifications and expertise, they can help with your portfolio, taxes, estate, investment strategy. You can use a professional as much or as little as you like. If you want to hand over the reins to someone who understands what you want – no problem! You want to run your own show, do your own research…and just have a broker make your trades – no problem! But whatever your way is, you MUST find someone with good credentials and experience. Someone who’s worked with clients like you. This person needs to inspire your confidence.

Thursday, July 31, 2008 Pay to Play: Online Video Subscriptions on the Horizon, Conde Nast Portfolio's Blaise Zerega Believe it: There will be a subscription model for online video. paidContent's Joe Weisenthal reports today that TheStreet**** will soon experiment with a subscription model for online video. Surely more publishers will follow as advertising opportunities are limited and some will pay a subscription price to watch video content. How to get users to sign up? The engaging power of video games could help turn online video viewers into registered users or paying subscribers, says Conde Nast Portfolio Deputy Editor Blaise Zerega. All Those Eyeballs and Not Enough Ads Blaise was editor of Red Herring and managing editor of Wired. He's seen a few cycles in the Valley. Like during the first Internet bubble, valuations are being based on "eyeballs" rather than on a viable business model. As advertising can't support all these digital media start-ups, we expect a subscription model could be viable for some. I interviewed him at Stanford last week where he participated in the Beet.TV online video roundtable. --Kelsey Blodget, Associate Producer *******www.beet.tv/2008/07/history-repeats.html
