Classic Game Room reviews SHIREN THE WANDERER for Nintendo Wii from Atlus. This is a Japanese style adventure role playing game RPG (or JRPG) for Nintendo Wii which can be played with the regular Wiimote or the awesome Wii Classic Controller. Wander feudal Japan, meet interesting creatures and cut them in half to earn experience points. Control up to three party members in your wandering adventures but don't lose your items! Save them, copy them, lock them in a vault or sell the on eBay and spend the money on beer before you go wandering. If you get sacked in an adventure you lose your stuff and have to buy it again. This CGR review of Shiren the Wanderer on Nintendo Wii has gameplay from Shiren the Wanderer on Wii showing game play in action. Developed by Chun Soft.
Dragon Warrior review. Classic Game Room presents a CGRundertow review of Dragon Warrior for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Think back to 1989, and think about the Role Playing Games you may have heard of: Wizardy, Ultima, Advanced Dungeons And Dragons, etc. The RPG world was, believe it or not, heavily shifted to the western market. While Square's Final Fantasy, released in 1987 in Japan and 1990 in America, shares a large part of the thanks for changing this perspective, Dragon Warrior from Enix predates Square's flagship title by about a year in each region, and served as the stepping stone for a fantastic RPG series, as well as the building block for the Japanese role-playing market as a whole. Dragon Warrior offered players the chance to travel far and wide on an epic quest to rescue a fair princess and save the world from the evil DragonLord. Light a torch, and get a grinding stone ready, because this game is a big time investment...but one worth delving into if you're interested in RPG History. This video review features video gameplay footage of Dragon Warrior on the NES, and audio commentary from Classic Game Room's Jonathan.
Earthbound review. Earthbound is a classic role playing game from 1995, released in 1995. Earthbound suffered from a relatively odd ad campaign with scratch-and-sniff-stickers. The inclusion of a free strategy guide may have also concerned potential buyers who thought the game was probably too hard to play, and moving onto new systems like the N64 or PS. Critics loved the humor of Earthbound, but the poor sales have caused this classic game to achieve cult status. Earthbound has a high cost of entry, and this puts off new players who didn't already own a copy. If you're seeking a run at Earthbound, you'll be looking at paying upwards to 150-200 dollars for a used copy of the game. This CGRundertow review features gameplay and commentary from CGR's Jonathan.
Shining in the Darkness review. Classic Game Room presents a CGRundertow review of Shining in the Darkness for the SEGA Genesis developed by Camelot Software Planning and Climax Entertainment and published by SEGA. Shining in the Darkness was SEGA's exclusive role-playing game title and the precursor to Shining Force and Shining Force II. Although Shining in the Darkness was very different than its successors, it was still well-received as a fantastic computer-style dungeon crawler for consoles. This video review features video gameplay footage of Shining in the Darkness for SEGA Genesis and audio commentary from Classic Game Room's Steve.
Diablo review. Classic Game Room presents a CGRundertow review of Diablo for Playstation developed by Climax and published by Electronic Arts. Diablo simultaneously spawned and perfected the fundamental formula to the isometric point-n-click action role-playing game in a single motion for the PC on Dec. 31, 1996. Well, roughly one year later the game replaced pointing and clicking with a controller when it was ported to the Playstation for console gamers to try their hand at ridding the realm of Sanctuary from the terrorizing hordes of Diablo. There were several aspects that made the Playstation version not quite as refined as the PC version, nonetheless it was still a fantastic action RPG that was nearly as addictive as it was dark and foreboding. Beyond that, Diablo was just as popular as it was influential to the gaming world, to both consumers and developers alike. This video review features video gameplay footage of Diablo for Playstation and audio commentary from Classic Game Room's Steve.
