Thorati, a depiction of real story happened in early 1980’s is a power packed folk drama based movie set in an interior village of south TamilNadu. This script covers the lifestyle of shepherds and the sheep rearing culture. The secret behind the title name, Thorati is the long stick with a hook used to pluck leaves from high tree trunks for feeding their herd and used weapons as weapons as well. A small budget film with a great effort and with entirely new faces. Shaman Mithru debuts as the hero in Mayan character as well as a producer of this film, Sathyakala plays the heroine as Semponnu and the supporting characters Sundarajan as Senthatti, Chellamjeyaseelan as Eepuli and Muthuraman as Southu Mutti. The struggle to sustain the cooked rice(ventha souru), Meal barbecued(sutta kari) and Illicit arrack(patta saarayam) moves the story in an interesting way. The credit goes to the director Marimuthu, the cast and crew for making every scene realistic. The locations and the people look so real that you are transported to their world while watching the film. Ved Shankar has forayed into rural music and takes the listeners to the remote village through Thorati. The BGM by Jithin Roshan syncs very well with the plot of the movie. The album holds six awesome songs different from other folk based ussual numbers as the combination of vocal and instrumental sounds form structurally complete and emotionally expressive compositions which are different from your everyday rhythm and techno music. Raja Mohammed(editing) does a terrific work behind the camera. An unbelievable tradition and a superstitious belief are behind the film Thorati. The film has lifelike characters that draw you into their lives with their realistic performances.
