With the yellow over-rev light staring me in the face I grab an upshift. I start to feel the front-end gently climbing skyward as I motor uphill towards Laguna's infamous corkscrew, I run the bike wide and to the outside, setting up for the famous turn. I close the throttle, snag a downshift and squeeze the tank with my legs as hard as I can while jamming on the front brake lever, then out of the corner of my eye last year's world champ and certified Laguna expert, Nick Hayden, snakes through, rear-wheel kicked out sideways, then in a instant he's gone... All on a bone-stock 2008 Honda CBR1000RR streetbike. Watch the video and then read the entire first ride article at www.motorcycle-usa****

A tidal wave of change has washed over Water Country USA with the water park's newest addition, "Rock 'n' Roll Island." Featuring four slides, a lazy river and a large refreshing pool themed after 1950s and '60s rock-and-roll culture, Rock 'n' Roll Island offers thrills and excitement for the whole family. A 33-foot-tall "Jammin' Juke Box" slide tower juts skyward at the far edge of the island. Three translucent body slides shoot from the top of the structure, each named after a popular rock-and-roll dance – the "Funky Chicken," the "Hully Gully" and the "Twist." The slides twist and turn for nearly 200 feet before spilling riders into a 9,000-square-foot pool. For the little ones, Rock 'n' Roll Island features a new "Little Bopper" children's slide. More than half of Rock 'n' Roll Island's pool is reserved for swimming and relaxing. Guests also can float with the current in the 700-foot-long lazy river that surrounds the island. Tibetan tectonics trigger China quake: Geologists Camera caught quake as it happened May 12, 2008 (CNN) — The death toll from the China earthquake was 12,012 Tuesday night, but was expected to rise as soldiers and rescue crews pulled more bodies from crumbled buildings at the epicenter in Sichuan province. Authorities said the death toll from Monday's quake might change every hour, as they heard reports from crews frantically working to remove bodies and survivors from the debris, the state-run Xinhua news agency said. Xinhua reported 26,026 people injured. Thousands were missing, many of them buried, and the tally kept changing. # Tibetan tectonics trigger China quake: Geologists The violent quake that shook China's Sichuan province is linked to a shift of the Tibetan plateau to the north and east, experts said. "There will certainly be many aftershocks," commented Paul Tapponnier, an expert on tectonics in the region that is prone to earthquakes. The quake, with a magnitude of 7.8, struck close to densely populated areas of Sichuan province and was felt across a swathe of southeast Asia. China's state-run Xinhua news agency quoted local disaster relief officials as saying 3,000 to 5,000 people were estimated to have died in just one district of Sichuan, Beichuan County. Earthquakes are frequent and deadly along the fringes of the Tibetan Plateau, which was raised when India collided into Eurasia, starting some 50 million years ago. It is this powerful thrust that created the Himalayas, towering at 8,848 metres with Mount Everest, the highest peak. The mountains continue to reach skyward to this day, propelled by unstable tectonic terrain. "Tibet is being pushed to the east. It is straddling southern China and locally the Sichuan bassin," said Tapponier. The quake that emanated in the Longmenshan margins of the Tibetan plateau "has a very complex geology," said Robin Laccassin, director of the tectonics department at the Institute. "There are many major fault lines... Some are ancient and they probably broke," said Laccassin. The deadliest earthquake to rock the Tibetan plateau in the 20th century was in 1920 when 230,000 people died in Gansu province. Another quake in Yunnan in the southwest left more than 15,000 dead in 1970.

Where Will The Aviators Of Tomorrow Come From? Here's One Flyer Trying to Affect Our Future... Positively He's made quite a name for himself in his 25 years... and we surely haven't heard the last of this aviator. Barrington Irving is reportedly the youngest person to pilot a plane around the world solo. He is also the first African American and first Jamaican to accomplish this feat. He accomplished his amazing adventure in a Columbia 400 named the "Inspiration." Over the course of the trip he got to know Mother nature very well. Of the over water portions of his flight, Irving (above) added "My hats off to Charles Lindbergh. I don’t know how he did it but I know why his windows were so small, when you’re flying over that much water, you don’t want to see it." Born in Jamaica and then raised in Miami inner-city, Irving and his friends didn’t have many routes "out." Good grades and athletic prowess in football promised Irving a future in sports and a way to shed Miami’s influence. One day when he was 15, his life turned to aviation. A customer in his parent’s Christian bookstore was Jamaican Airlines Captain Gary Robinson. Robinson invited Irving to see the Boeing 777 he flew. The aviation bug snagged Irving, who became the airport kid -- washing planes for money for lessons or rides. The football team lost a star as Irving turned down all the scholarships and turned his dreams skyward. Few people understood his choice, including parents, friends and coaches... but Irving knew his path. Irving attended Florida Memorial University and has worked his way an instructor rating. Throughout his training Irving started speaking at schools, churches and community groups about aviation careers. In 2005 Irving founded Experience Aviation, Inc. on Opa Locka Airport (FL). The program is designed to offer information and guidance to young people in the South Florida area about aviation careers. Mr. Irving was born in Jamaica, and grew up in the Miami, Florida.[12] He is a graduate of Miami Northwestern High School. Mr. Irving turned down multiple football scholarship offers with his sights set on aviation. He later founded Experience Aviation, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering minority youth to pursue careers in aviation. His airplane, the "Inspiration", has been registered to Experience Aviation since 2006. His message echoes Lindbergh’s. "It doesn’t matter where you’re coming from, what you have or what you don’t have all that matters is your passion." Irving never thought he was smart enough to be a pilot so one of his goals is to make sure young people realize their dreams in aviation are attainable. In the future, Irving will be working with NASA to encourage students into engineering. And just recently, sixty high-school students participating in aviator Barrington Irving's "Build and Soar" program got a special thrill, when the plane they assembled was successfully test flown by Irving himself in mid-October. Hundreds of students, supporters and onlookers gathered last Wednesday morning at Miami's Opa-Locka airport to witness the event. Just before take off, Irving told the crowd, "I'm not nervous about flying this aircraft because I believe in our students. I'm about to do something monumental." An exemplary flyer, we're proud that Barrington is one of "us" and can't wait to see the effect he's going to have on our industry. Come Meet Barrington Irving On Aero-TV! This historic architecturally significant home is a true representative of Mid-Century Modern residential design. Rumored to be designed by William Cody (although not documented), the home incorporates serveral Cody-esque unusual features: skyward sloping roofline, angular clerestory windows, downward sloping rock wall, a mix of board & batten and smooth stucco surfaces. The use of natural stone continues inside on the fireplace wall, creating a focal point of the living room. Walls of windows seemlessly open the living spaces to the outdoors, inviting the outside in. The kitchen and baths have been handsomely updated. A unique angular floor plan features two master suites and 3rd bedroom (used as an office). Outside, enjoy a 16 x 32 pool, spa, and outdoor shower in a private setting. This fully gated compound is located on a huge corner lot, approx. 1/3 acre, in a premier neighborhood of Rancho Mirage. No Lease, or HOA Fees. Call today for your private showing.

Wyoming Travel from Tauck:*******www.tauck****/home/tours/usa-tours/western-usa-travel/wyoming-travel-yys-2013. Come on little doggies, it's time to hit the trail and discover what Cowboy Country and Yellowstone vacations are all about. When you think of the Wild West, what do you see? Purple mountains that stand like sentinels off in the distance? That pretty much describes your first views of the Grand Tetons as you settle into your classic western lodge for a two-night stay. The first pioneers had to raft down wilderness rivers, just like you will when you explore the Snake River. What kind of animals do you think you'll see? Beaver? Elk? Bison? You'll have a chance to look for them as you travel to Yellowstone, the world's first-ever national park. If you've ever read about Old Faithful, here's your chance to watch it shoot its plume of steam skyward every hour, because you'll be staying in a lodge just steps away. Nothing says "Wild West" like Buffalo Bill and a buckin' bronco rodeo. You'll be able to learn more about them when you spend the night in historic Cody. Then it's your turn to live like a cowboy at The Ranch at Ucross, a real dude ranch up in the Bighorn Mountains. Everything is larger than life in the West, especially Crazy Horse Memorial and Mt. Rushmore, where the faces of four former presidents are sculpted in stone -- a fitting finale to your real-life western adventure!
