Recently I’ve been observing the trends in social media marketing and I’m sharing some of my conclusions with my Supanova Superstars group and youtube subscribers.
So far I have been using web 2.0 sites like you tube and myspace to post videos, blogs and articles etc and this has helped me to build my prospect list and attract some amazing business deals and joint ventures.
However, much can be learned by listening and observing the latest trends. So many people fall for the hype that is put out by people promising to show you how to make lots of money.
But in my opinion when we take time to step back and look at the big picture we can see the now well established marketing system of squeeze page – free boot camp training or information product – data capture has become so derivative and watered down to be of little real value.
Whilst this e business system certainly does offer a quick way to get started in social media marketing it is not robust enough to take your business to the next level where you can make sales 24/7 on autopilot.
As I scale my own Supanova business up I am focusing on other things that I have never noticed before such as the number of people who sign up to 20 + email lists.
So if you are serious about building a long term e commerce business just building a list of un-targeted opportunity seekers is not going to be enough to give you the kind of leverage and cash flow you need to expand and move to the next level.

From what I am witnessing it is time for the next online evolution in social media marketing.
Let me explain: the real power of working online is that the internet lets us communicate who we are and what we believe so that those who can align with our intentions and want to work with us can easily do so.
But I have been struggling recently to scale my business up and I think this is a challenge for many online marketers. The dilemma is that in order to get more traffic to generate more cash flow I have to network more on free sites like you tube and myspace and this very quickly becomes inefficient in terms of the amount of time it takes up.
However without the additional cash flow it is not possible to invest in developing an online platform that is capable of delivering the kind of value that ultimately would bring in even more sales.
As I do not use paid advertising or pay per click ads I feel there has to be a better solution.
The next step I feel in the evolution of social media marketing is to help people overcome this barrier and to further democratise the home business industry so that it isn’t just the gurus who can afford the necessary web presence.
In my 2 years working online from home I have already seen many changes. For example when my own mentor Dennis Karganilla created his landmark MLMGoldMine training program he was the first to enter the market for web 2.0 training aimed at home business owners.
Now this particular niche market is flooded with ‘learn how to use myspace’ courses.
As successful entrepreneurs will tell you the knack of generating wealth lies in watching what everyone else is up to and doing either the opposite or finding another less competitive niche market to enter.

Social media marketing is a technique of using free user generated web sites such as MySpace and Facebook to attract targeted traffic, i.e. potential customers, who are interested in what you have to say and what you have to sell.
It is easy for new people to get overwhelmed and not know where to start so there are a few important factors to bear in mind.
Firstly, social networking was never intended to be sales platforms; therefore, sites like MySpace and You Tube do not in themselves deliver sales. In fact quite the opposite as more and more users get sick and tired of strangers spamming them.
Secondly, as these sites are open to anyone who wants to set up an account they are untargeted and members are, therefore, unqualified.
So, rather than offering a way to get sales or sign ups these social media sites are a source of traffic and as internet marketers our job is to learn how to attract the right people, qualify them and engage in a meaningful way with our target market.
The idea now in 2009 that you can throw up a profile and link it to a typical emotion-laden squeeze page have long gone. There is enough educated social media consumers now for that old chestnut to be ineffective and what’s left is the bottom end of the feeding chain who will undoubtedly opt in all day long – but have neither money nor skills to make your business profitable.
Today you need to start your internet business with a professional web system that brands you as an expert.
