Tuesday, June 24, 2008 *******www.beet.tv/2008/06/sony-pictures-c.html Sony Pictures CTO: Interoperability for Downloaded Media is Essential for the Entertainment Industry CULVER CITY, CA -- The success of digital entertainment will result from true interoperability between consumer devices, says Mitch Singer, Chief Technology Officer of Sony Pictures. Earlier this month I visited him on on the Sony lot. He is among a group of entertainment executives and academics who are working to create new standards in downloadable media. He says it is essential that this content work across multiple devices, much like DVD's. There is a big movement underway in Hollywood to unify formats. But, after witnessing the just concluded nasty DVD format war and the dominance of Apple, it's hard to see how things can be unified anytime soon. We will be covering this topic in the days ahead with interviews with thought leaders from IBM and the University of Southern California. -- Andy Plesser, Executive Producer

After the events of Starship Troopers: Invasion, Johnny Rico has been demoted to the rank of colonel and relocated to a Martian satellite to train a new batch of troopers. Unfortunately, these troopers are some of the worst low-performing Rico has ever trained as Mars overall has low support for the war, seeing their planet unaffected by the bug conflict and even suggesting pulling out from the war. Because of their laid-back attitude, the denizens of Mars weren't ready when the bugs attacked. Unknown to everyone, Sky Marshall Amy Snapp executes her plans for power. Snapp hatched her own plans to destroy Mars while gaining popular support for doing it. She's well aware of the bug nest growing under Mars for some time, but she decided to take advantage of the bug attack to gain social and political support to scuttle the whole planet. She staged a fleet attack run on the Arachnid Quarantine Zone (AQZ) as a massive distraction. While no one notices, she plans to capture General Carl Jenkins, then fabricate a story in which the Federation was too distracted in the AQZ to save Mars and had to detonate a Q-Bomb (planet destroyer) to cleanse the bug threat and Carl will be blamed for the loss of Mars. Unfortunately, nothing went according to plan.

Blade Runner 2049 – Harrison Ford - Alcon Entertainment – Sony Pictures – Warner Bros. Pictures - Bud Yorkin Productions - Torridon Films - 16:14 Entertainment - Scott Free Productions – Director Denis Villeneuve – Producers Ridley Scott, Andrew A. Kosove, Bud Yorkin & Cynthia Sikes Yorkin – Writers Hampton Fancher & Michael Green Blade Runner 2049 is a 2017 American neo-noir science fiction film directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green. A sequel to the 1982 film Blade Runner, the film stars Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford, with Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Lennie James, Dave Bautista, and Jared Leto in supporting roles. Edward James Olmos also briefly reprises his role as Gaff. Set thirty years after the first film, Gosling plays K, a blade runner who uncovers a secret that threatens to instigate a war between humans and replicants. Because the sequel adopts the timeline of the original Blade Runner, which is set in 2019, just two years after the date of release of the sequel, the sequel is also a work of alternate history fiction that adopts the technological advancements of the first movie occurring between 1982 and 2019, while also disregarding many of the actual developments of the era, such as the ubiquity of flat-panel displays, the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the collapse of Pan Am. Principal photography took place between July and November 2016, mainly in Budapest, Hungary. Blade Runner 2049 premiered in Los Angeles on October 3, 2017 and was released in the United States in 2D, 3D and IMAX on October 6, 2017. The film was praised by critics for its performances, direction, cinematography, musical score, production design, and faithfulness to the original film. Despite positive reviews, the film was a box office disappointment, grossing just $92 million in North America and $259 million worldwide.
