2009 marks 20 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall and the momentous events which unfolded across Eastern Europe as people took to the streets in public revolt which broke down the Communist regimes, including Ceausescuâs much feared dictatorship.
The final 15 years of the Ceausescu regime were the worst in Romania's history. Nonetheless, the propaganda machine of that time referred without fail to that period as âthe golden ageâ...
TALES FROM THE GOLDEN AGE adapts for screen the most popular urban myths of the period. Comic, bizarre, surprising myths abounded, myths that drew on the often surreal events of everyday life under the communist regime.
Humour is what kept Romanians alive, and TALES FROM THE GOLDEN AGE aims to re-capture that mood, portraying the survival of a nation having to face every day the twisted logic of a dictatorship.
On the occasion of Ceausescu's working visits, countryside mayors ended up hanging fruit in trees to make sure their villages would be noticed, obeying even the strangest orders from the ferocious Party activists. Communist Party secret regulations stated that in official pictures President Ceausescu couldn't take his hat off in front of the representatives of the rotten capitalistic world, President d'Estaing included. A professional driver decides to open his sealed truck for the first time in his career and discovers the connection between eggs, Easter and marital love. A policeman gets a live pig as gift before Christmas and decides that gas poisoning would be the best way to kill the animal silently amongst his hungry neighbors. In the 80s Romania, Bughi and Crina play Bonnie and Clyde, robbing people of bottled air.
The cumulative effect of these urban legends at once funny, poignant and surprising offer a surreal portrait of life in Romania in the 1980s where undertones of fear, corruption and imprisonment were never far away from the humour and spirit which kept people alive.
TALES FROM THE GOLDEN AGE combines several true stories to portray an era during which food was more important than money, freedom more important than love and survival more important than principles.

Milon's Secret Castle review. *******www.ClassicGameRoom**** Shop CGR shirts & mugs! *******www.CGRstore**** Classic Game Room presents a CGR Undertow review of Milon's Secret Castle for NES developed and published by Hudson. Milon's Secret Castle typifies the NES experience: What exposition there is takes place mostly in the manual and/or blurbs on the box itself, the gameplay elements that are apparent don't make all that much sense on their own (like bubbles defeating enemies and blowing away chunks of wall and floor in many places), and the ultimate goal is the liberation of some spirited-away important person who's in quite a bit of peril. Fortunately, Milon's assisted by a mysterious shopkeeper who pops up in the strangest of places, as well as... boxing gloves that make him shrink? This video review features video gameplay footage of Milon's Secret Castle for NES and audio commentary from Classic Game Room's TJ.

Purple Haze Vampire Video Song - Hexabaloo Productions story behind the scenes of the video and song: I went to a gig at the Boondocks Tavern in Seven Valleys, Hex County, Pennsylvania to see the band drummer James Swalinski was in. Can't think of the bands name now. This was around 96. I used to play in bands with James back in the day, in the 70's Strawbridge and Pyramid. He played drums on my very first recordings I did in the late 70's with the 80-8 one of the first consumer multitrack machines available.
Back to the story.
There was this girl dressed in complete black sitting at the bar drinking this really red dark bloody looking drink that looked like blood. I thought she looks very strange like a Vampire. I walked up to the bar where she was sitting and asked her, "what is that drink your drinking?" She said I'm drinking blood I need it. I laughed. She didn't. Ha. I wanted to make a Vampire movie at the time with the song Purple Haze by Hendrix. I called my version Purple Haze Vampire. I thought she would be perfect. I asked her if she wanted to be in my music video about the Vampire called "Purple Haze," with the song Purple Haze which I had gotten permission from Jamie Hendrix to release. I had to get permission from Jamie before I could release my version of the song even though ascap gave permission they said I still had to get her permission. She's very protective of Jimi's music. Sent her a tape then called her a few days later to see if she liked it and if she would allow me to release. She said it was the strangest weirdest version of the song she ever heard. She said yes, go ahead and release. When I called her I was so nervous to hear her decision. She said, "I like your version Lenny." It is very strange, but I like it. It felt so cool to get her permission. We then had a cool interesting conversation about her brother Jimi. I love Jimi's music.
The Vampire girl I've since forgotten her name.
