BY KAI KANG ANCHOR CHRISTINA HARTMAN You're watching multisource entertainment video news analysis from Newsy. Superman stands for truth, justice and the American way! Well- actually- he doesn’t stand for that last one any more. In Action Comics 900 the Man of Steel renounced his American citizenship after protecting a peaceful protest in Iran that caused an international incident. (HyperVocal) The incident has left fans split. The New York Post heads into the comic shops to get their reactions. ORLANDO HERNANDEZ: “Many people in this country are... have gone through great efforts to become Americans. And it’s just a little sad that someone that does have the citizenship and has that right is relinquishing from it.” (Flash) CHARLES WILSON: “He would never strike me as ever anti-anything or anti-American. He’s too much of a positive figure. Too much of a positive icon.” Superman called himself a quote-“citizen of the universe” after relinquishing his U.S. citizenship. But the idea has one blogger for The Weekly Standard confused. “Does he believe in liberté, égalité,fraternité, or sharia? Does he believe in British interventionism or Swiss neutrality? You see where I’m going with this: If Superman doesn’t believe in America, then he doesn’t believe in anything.” But a blogger for Wired disagrees, saying, as the United States struggles with anti-immigrant sentiment, it’s quote- “refreshing.” “The genius of Superman is that he belongs to everyone, for the dual purposes of peace and protection. He’s above ephemeral geopolitics and nationalist concerns, a universal agent unlike any other found in pop culture.” But it might not as simple as D.C. trying to send a message. According to Ricky Sprague of When Falls the Coliseum- there might be a more economic reason for Superman’s decision. “Time Warner is about to lose the copyright to the character of Superman. They have not been happy about this. And when they lose their copyfight cases? Well, they behave petulantly.” So what do you think about Superman’s decision? Please tell us in our comment section. British Citizenship test, new rules and regulations from the UK Border Agency (UKBA) now say that, to apply to become a permanent resident or citizen of the UK you will need to: • Speak and read English • Have a good understanding of life in the UK You must at least show the language skills required in order to adapt properly in the new UK environment. As of January 2013, there are currently two ways you can be tested on these requirements: 1. Take the Life in the UK test. The questions are written in a way that requires an understanding of the English language at English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Entry Level 3, so there is no need to take a separate English language test. 2. Pass an ESOL course in English with citizenship. You will need to take this course if your standard of English is below ESOL Entry Level 3. The course will help you to improve your English and learn more about life in the UK. At the end of the course you will take a test.

Read this book if you want to be able to speak with your friends about your social and political beliefs with confidence. Striving to maintain a centrist perspective, Tryon presents a tool kit to empower citizen participation in the American political process. Technological changes in the way we present and process information coupled with inherent features of the free press have changed the nature of the individual citizen's engagement with our elected public servants. Accountability Citizenship explains how we can restore accountability in government by accepting our personal accountability for some simple tasks we must do as individual citizens living in the age of information. The book is non-partisan. Readers are asked only to agree on the very basics-that the government of the United States is supposed to represent the people of the United States. The author makes a compelling case that changes in our information distribution technologies and business models discourage effective political participation by citizens. In the early days of our republic, information distribution was based on newspapers-subscription-based and geographically aligned with the representative structure of Congress. Over the past forty years, deregulation of television and radio along with the information technology revolution have disrupted this alignment. But we can restore accountability through the three steps of accountability citizenship: being appropriately positive, appropriately informed and appropriately engaged.
