We tested the first UMPC (Ultra Mobile PC) from Sony - the Sony Vaio UX Mobile Computer - a few months ago. The 1.6lb Vista powered computer comes fully equipped with an Intel Centrino Duo processor, 40gb harddrive, Blue Tooth, Wi-Fi and touch screen not to mention a docking station and a slide out keyboard.

Intel has an exciting new processor chip that will be in all new Ultra Mobile PC's in the coming months. Bringing more power, lower heat and significantly reduced power consumption. While I got to touch one of the chips I was not able to keep it.
What this chip is going to do is cause Ultra Mobile PC to get smaller and provide more power to the end user. Next year when we go to the Consumer Electronics Show we will have Menlo powered UMPC in our back packs streaming video live.
Really exciting stuff coming from Intel and we will have a whole slew of vendors putting out UMPC with the new Intel Menlo processor.

Gigabyte is releasing a new UMPC. The M704 still has an LED backlight, a slightly larger 7 inch screen with 1024x600 resolution, improves processor speed, improves battery life to 3.5-4 hours and ads a better webcam resolution compared to the previous Gigabyte U600 series. Now it uses a VIA 1.2GHZ C7M processor and will be released in March.
