For more info visit newsinfusion**** May 20, 2010 - Graduation is a time for celebrating a milestone and looking forward to the next phase of life, but what most people don’t realize is that graduation parties can introduce a host of potential legal problems for parents and teens. So as graduation season approaches and parents across the country prepare for parties honoring their son or daughter’s achievements, they should know the potential legal risks associated with hosting such events. What if your teen asks you to supply some booze? What if someone drives drunk? What if there’s an accident on your property? Can you be held responsible as the homeowner and as the host? Renowned attorney, Gloria Allred, is available to address these questions and talk about the risks that face parents and teens during graduation celebrations. In fact, as more and more states enact social host liability laws, which hold individuals hosting parties responsible for underage drinking and accidents that occur on his/her property, Allred can also offer the dos and don’ts and provide tips on how parents can protect themselves and their kids. In interviews on May 20, 2010, she will discuss: · Alcohol-related Accidents: According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 2,395 teens died last year in car crashes associated with alcohol consumption. The criminal and civil charges you open yourself up to if you serve alcohol to a minor; and how you could be held responsible for any accident that occurs on and off your property. · Protecting guests: How a dilapidated deck or a cracked roof could land you on the receiving end of a lawsuit · Protecting yourself: The type of insurance you must have to protect yourself and the precautions you must take before you even open your doors to guests.

Miley Cyrus decided to expose Lisbon to her underage camel toe over the weekend and you have to wonder who the hell thought this outfit was a good idea. Clearly Miley did, but she can’t help the fact she grew up in the south where it’s illegal to discuss anything related to the hole Jesus puts babies in. But her entire staff can’t be backward-ass rednecks, can they? I mean, there had to be at least one person saying illegal moose-knuckle and blow-up doll faces don’t belong on the same stage, threats of Billy Ray mullet wounds be damned. Dear Miley, There are these things called “cameras” that record moments in time exactly as they happen. I know that sounds like devil magic, but you’re going to have to roll with me on this one. However, if you are familiar with them, I should probably point out they also work at places that aren’t the swimming hole your dad put up a sign that reads “Nekkids Only.” Just in case there’s any confusion. You're watching multisource US video news analysis from Newsy. A new alcoholic beverage is sweetening the market and it’s got college students, parent groups and federal officials all whipped up. Whipped Lightning, or what the cool kids are calling "Whipahol," is an alcoholic whipped cream. A reporter for WLNE already has questions about its legality. “I’m a little confused by this. Is this...is that drinking in public? Do police agencies know to look for people walking down the street with cans that look like hairspray? What if I get pulled over with an open container of alcoholic infused whipped cream? Will I go to jail?” This infused cream comes to liquor stores at a time when another alcoholic product, Four Loko, is being banned by the federal government. Still, the creator of the whipped topping tells CNBC, his desert topping targets an older demographic, and not the college crowd. “Most importantly also the product is a distilled spirit. It’s regulated by the federal government and all of the states, only sold where licensed alcoholic beverages can be sold. That’s first and foremost this first way and the most important way to keep these products out of the hands of underage consumers.” The whipped cream comes in flavors like amaretto, German chocolate, and strawberry colada, and costs roughly $10 at liquor stores. The alcohol content is a stout 18 per cent - that’s more than three times the amount in most beers. College students are at least curious about the new alcoholic concoction, but one student tells WFXT the product won’t follow the same track as the alcoholic energy drinks. “You know my friends who have talked about it have said, you know, oh maybe I’ll buy it just for fun and see what it’s all about, but I don’t think anyone is taking it too seriously. ... I think people are making it a big deal because it’s the new alcoholic product since the ban of Four Loko.” And a writer for The Stir says it’s impossible to dodge the younger crowd’s curiosity. “It's just yet another alcoholic beverage that kids will likely get their hands on. Whatev. That's life. Just be sure to double-check the whipped cream in the fridge before topping off your sundae.” Students are being warned about adding the whipped topping to drinks like Jell-O shots, where the alcohol flavor is already masked. So -- like the idea of whipped and spiked? Or -- keep it pure? Get more multisource US video news analysis from Newsy.

Transcript by Newsy**** BY TARA GRIMES You're watching multisource U.S. news analysis from Newsy Planned Parenthood is under fire after a video surfaced of a clinic manager in New Jersey helping two people posing as a pimp and a prostitute running an underage sex ring. Live Action, a youth-led pro-life group, released the video. AMY WOODRUFF, CLINIC MANAGER: “If they come in for pregnancy testing, um, s**t, at that point I’d still be. You never got this from me. Just to make all our lives easier. If they’re fourteen and under just send them right there if they need an abortion. Okay?” And when the man acting as a pimp asked about birth control… AMY WOODRUFF, CLINIC MANAGER: “Here’s the thing, too. If they’re minors, just tell them to put down that they’re students. Just..” FAKE PIMP: “Students.” AMY WOODRUFF, CLINIC MANAGER: “Yeah. Just kinda play along that they’re students. We want to make it look as legit’ as possible.” FOX Anchor John Stossel calls the manager’s actions “disgusting”. He points out - stuff like this only intensifies the pro-life/pro-choice divide. “Half the country thinks abortion is murder, so by giving them $300 million we’re forcing people who think it’s murder to pay for murder.” Ed Morrissey, a writer for the conservative blog Hot Air- agrees- saying the video proves places like Planned Parenthood “flout” laws meant to protect women and children. “Obviously, state agencies that exist to protect women and enforce the law aren’t doing their jobs... Congress needs to act to cut off public funding of Planned Parenthood entirely.” Many say Live Action’s timing in releasing the video is strategic. GOP Representative Mike Pence of Indiana and Senator David Vitter of Louisiana recently reintroduced legislation that would deny abortion providers federal funds under Title X family planning grants. But Salon reporter Alex Pareene says he thinks Live Action’s video is deceptive since it was edited. “These conservative undercover ‘hoaxes’ are best understood as an attempt to make their fantasies real. In order to make animate the world that they feverishly imagine, they must themselves become the unsavory characters with bad motivations that they enjoy thinking populate these hotbeds of degenerate liberal activity.” And Huffington Post reporter Jason Linkins points out- one employee in one Planned Parenthood doesn’t represent the organization as a whole. “Planned Parenthood may have a single staffer whose actions need to be called into question. ... Other than that, Planned Parenthood is an organization that, if it catches a whiff of some illegal activity, gets the FBI involved as quickly as possible...” Planned Parenthood has fired the manager from the video. The New Jersey attorney general is now investigating the incident. Get more multisource video news analysis from Newsy

BY TARA GRIMES You're watching multisource US news analysis from Newsy As thousands travel to Dallas for the Super Bowl - Texas law enforcement officials are working to prevent a serious, but little known crime. Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott is calling child sex trafficking an “ugly underbelly” of the greatest show on earth, and says the Super Bowl is commonly known as the single largest human trafficking incident in the United States. (Video: KXAS) According to estimates from the Texas attorney general’s office - 10,000 adult and underage girls have come to previous Super Bowls. The Dallas Women’s Foundation estimates this Super Bowl could see as many as 38,000 underage prostitutes. And while headlines are exploding about the problem, some say it’s nothing more than fear-mongering and propaganda. Still others say the problem is very real. (Video: KPTV) The Ellis County Observer calls all the news on sex trafficking during the Super Bowl “overblown” and the outcry a “hysteria.” “There are little boys and little girls emulating fertility rites every spring… Underage prostitution is bad, but really, I think this is so overblown that we don’t need a Super Bowl in North Texas to tell us it’s there.” But Family Security Matters’ Robin McFee says that doesn’t mean the problem shouldn’t be addressed. “We as a society have to loudly voice ‘enough is enough!’ These are not victimless crimes… We as a society must stop turning a blind eye to the sex industry & human trafficking, and stop thinking 'it’s only sex.'" Finally - a blogger for the Blogistan Polytechnic Institute points out - no one knows for sure how big the problem of sex trafficking is -- but wonders why it seems everybody but the Super Bowl Host Committee is talking about it. “I guess I can understand why they wouldn’t want to get involved in efforts to publicize this problem, but their job is to organize the event. That includes helping coordinate vehicle traffic. Shouldn’t it also include helping to reduce human trafficking?” According to the child advocacy group Klaas Kids Foundation and Miami-based Kristi house, sixteen underage prostitutes were found working near the Super Bowl last year in Miami. BY ERIK SHUTE AND HARUMENDHAH HELMY You're watching multisource headline news analysis from Newsy This is Newsy Now — and here are the headlines you need to know. In world news — protests continue to rage in the Middle East, while facing harsh crackdown from the governments. CNN reports — thousands of Iranians demonstrated in Tehran on Monday. Though Iranian leaders praise Egypt’s revolution, the government still unleashed police officers with tear gas and batons to disperse the protesters in Tehran. (Video: CNN) And in Bahrain, two Shi’ite protesters were killed in a clash with the police on Monday — sparking calls from opposition leaders to step up demonstrations. (Video: BBC) To Europe, where Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi will stand trial in April for paying an underage prostitute for sex, as well as abusing his political power to get her out of police custody. Not surprisingly, euronews reports, this case is not helping Berlusconi’s political career. “In the most recent opinion polls, Berlusconi’s party slumped to just 27.2 percent support.” And in US news — on Monday the House voted to extend a few provisions on the decade old PATRIOT Act until Dec. 8. The media report included in the extension are three ways Congress, expanded the FBI’s counter-terrorism powers. Bloomberg says those include wiretap powers, granting access to suspected terrorists’ business and other records. Without new legislation, the provisions would have expired on Feb. 28. In entertainment -- the Grammy’s might be over, but it’s not stopping Justin Bieber’s spoiled losers from venting over the web. ABC reports following the awards night, Bieber fans attacked the Wikipedia page of best new artist Esperanza Spaulding. In their war of words they noted she won the Grammy "by stealing it from Justin Bieber.” One entry even read “GO DIE IN A HOLE... …WHO THE HECK ARE YOU ANYWAY?" Wikipedia locked the page from further editing as the Bieber fan backlash escalated. Spaulding has admitted the award was a surprise and reporters were one in the same. “...they were handing out “cheat sheets” to the reporters to try and explain who this young lady was. So we were interviewing her backstage, not having much of an idea of who we were talking to. We all thought this was Justin’s award, this is a big shocker...” Stay with Newsy**** for more analysis on news throughout the day. BY MALLORY PERRYMAN You're watching multisource world news analysis from Newsy Italian Prime Minster Silvio Berlusconi has a date- with three women. Judges, actually…who will decide whether he goes to jail for allegedly paying for sex with an underage girl – and using his power to cover it up. An Italian judge ruled there is enough evidence against Mr. Berlusconi to warrant a fast-track trial, already set for April 6th… with no preliminary hearing. MSNBC’s Kelly O’Donnell points out- this isn’t the first time Berlusconi has been to court. She asks reporter Cladio Lavanga - what’s different this time? CLADIO LAVANGA: “He’s never had a fast track trial as this one. It always involved a lot of preliminary hearings that gave him time to introduce what saved him in a way ... but this came down as really a cold shower as this is a very fast track trial on the sixth of April. No time to find a solution to defend himself and save himself this time.” CNN’s Dan Rivers reports- this will be the most sensational trial Italy has ever seen…if it actually happens. DAN RIVERS: “There are a lot of other things that could happen that could derail this trial before we get to the conclusion. The Berlusconi defense team has been fighting all the way with this. He has angrily denied the charges, saying they're politically motivated. They're trying to bring in the legislature down in Rome, saying that they have already voted in his favor on a related issue. So there's a lot of things that could go wrong in all of this. “ Bad news for Berlusconi- but according to The Guardian, the prime minister’s chin is still up- and so are his poll numbers “…despite the mounds of evidence assembled by police and prosecutors, opinion polls show that 30% of Italians agree with him that he is a victim of unjust judicial persecution. Only 13% think that the claim that he illegally paid for sex with an underage prostitute will end his career, while 26% think the whole thing is a storm in a teacup and will be forgotten in a matter of days." Popular in the polls…but not on the streets this Sunday, where tens of thousands of women demonstrated for quote “ a country that respects women.” But a Telegraph contributor points out- not all Italian women hate Berlusconi. And Italian men? They flat out worship the guy. “Most Italian men envy their diminutive PM his stamina (at 74, still capable of ‘bunga bunga’) and his self-made fortune (he’s a billionaire…). Even in his political speeches, he’s as schmaltzy as a karaoke crooner. But Italians, addicted to their homegrown pop-lite, love it.” Meanwhile...the underage girl in the middle of the scandal is cashing in on her newfound fame. Now 18-year-old Karima El Mahroug, AKA: ‘Ruby the heartstealer’, appears in an Italian commercial for a book she describes as a guide to life in the EU in a world “stripped bare” by the government. Hence the...stripping. BY: LINDSEY WOLF You're watching multisource health video news analysis from Newsy. An FDA panel says a ban on menthol cigarettes would be beneficial to public health. A June 2009 act gave the FDA the authority to regulate tobacco laws. The act banned all flavored cigarettes - including clove and strawberry - but decided to leave the fate of menthols in the hands of nine voting members on an advisory panel. (video: C-SPAN) And concern over minty cigarettes isn’t new. About a year ago - Dr. Manny Alvarez explained the concerns on Fox Business. “Ultimately the bad thing about menthol is that the cooling effect of the menthol really takes away a couple of the clinical issues when it comes to smoking. It sort of decreases your coughing reflex and also it makes the person inhale deeper. So in theory, you could be doing more damage when you smoke these types of cigarette. So I think this is a good thing to look at.” The panel is not only concerned about the cool flavor attracting teenagers, but also African Americans - who smoke menthols more than other demographics. The Washington Post says this could be because brands like Kool and Newport have been targeting them in their advertising for years. (video: The Wall Street Journal) But Tobacco companies are firing back. They have acknowledged that all cigarettes are hazardous, but have presented the FDA with reports saying... “There's no scientific basis for regulating menthols differently … Menthol cigarettes don't make it easier for people to start smoking or harder for them to quit or raise their risk of disease.” But menthol smokers make up 27 percent of the cigarette market. The president of American Wholesale Marketers Association told the advisory committee - if menthol cigarettes are banned, smokers will find a way around the system. “Common sense tells us that a decision that lacks credibility will be disregarded by the public and exploited by black market operators. The end result will adversely affect our members' livelihoods, cost jobs, and lead to sales of unregulated cigarettes to underage youths.” But according to The New York Times, health groups say this could be the beginning of a long line of tobacco reforms. “The menthol issue poses the first real test of the advisory committee and F.D.A. toughness against cigarettes. The recommendation may signal a willingness to crack down on nicotine...” The FDA will make their decision on whether or not to ban menthols by March 23. If the ban passes, members say it could take years for it to go fully into effect. Follow Newsy on Twitter Newsy_Videos Get more health video news analysis from Newsy Transcript by Newsy.

BY HARUMENDHAH HELMY You're watching multisource world news analysis from Newsy Good news for Goodluck Jonathan -- Preliminary poll results show the Nigerian incumbent president is set up for a landslide victory. “Nigerian leader Goodluck Jonathan is winning the vote count in the presidential elections there. He has secured more than double the votes of his main rival.” (Video: Bloomberg) Observers are praising Nigeria for holding what’s being called the country’s fairest election in decades. The BBC offers some perspective on the reported improvement. “In 2007, you know, most people talked about the level of fraud. It was perhaps the one of the worst elections ever conducted, not just in Nigeria but also in Africa. But Nigeria seems to have to turned the corner. I was in Kano, there was a large turnout. People were standing in the sun for several hours and they just waited patiently to cast their votes.” Even with the improvements- CNN reports the election wasn’t totally error-free. “And it does seem that most observers and many Nigerians do believe their votes this time did matter. That is not to say, Zain, that this was...not a Nigerian election. We did see underaged voters. There are reports of inflated figures, particularly in the home region of Goodluck Jonathan, in the Delta region...” Al Jazeera reports -- some Nigerians from the northern part of the country are beginning to show their discontent over the results. That region is the stronghold of Jonathan’s closest contender, Muhammadu Buhari. “Concerns were raised late on Sunday over extraordinarily high totals favouring Jonathan in parts of his native south. Riots broke out in parts of the predominantly Muslim north over allegations of rigging.” Buhari has officially filed a complaint with the Independent National Electoral Commission in Abuja. But for now, analysts say it looks like Goodluck Jonathan is set for another term. Follow Newsy_Videos on Twitter Get more multisource video news analysis from Newsy Transcript by Newsy
