When their small village is once again attacked by the bandit Calvera (Eli Wallach), three Mexican farmers head north to try and buy guns. They ask Chris Adams(Yul Brynner) to help them but he suggests they hire experienced gunmen instead. He soon recruits five others and eventually accept a sixth who he had initially rejected but made it impossible for him to say no. Together, they develop a plan to secure the town and defend it against Calvera's attack. The Magnificent Seven by Elmer Bernstein has one of the more famous themes of cinema. This score is much more than its well-known theme, however. It packs in just about everything one would expect from a score for a Western/Mexican movie written pre-Morricone: happy trumpet lines, lots of latin percussian, fanfareing horns, and Spanish guitar motifs and mixes them up brilliantly. In this video Stanley Black and his orchestra combines two splendid topics: Main Title and Petra’s Declaration.
