The film is set in the early nineteenth century. Ricardo (Frank Sinatra) is the son of a robber known as the Kissing Bandit. He however is a shy, Boston-bred young man who does not know how to sit on a horse. He falls for Teresa (Kathryn Grayson), the daughter of the Spanish Governor of California. Few now remember this 1948 movie, one of Frank Sinatra's weakest musicals; but the Spanish Dance of Fury, in which Ann Miller was partnered by Cyd Charisse and Ricardo Montalban, is fondly recalled. This dance was choreographed by Stanley Donen, still one year away from making his directorial debut with “On the Town.” One presumes Donen directed the sequence too, as it puts everything else in the movie
