Friday the 13th 'IF' it's unlucky? Today is Friday the thirteenth Are you scared? We ask IF it is really the unluckiest day of the year So first why is the 13th seen as such an unlucky day well There are several sources The first and most famous theory is that of the knights Templar The order of the knights Templar were arrested, tortured, and killed on Friday, October 13, 1307, King Philip IV of France, in league with Pope Clement V gave the order that all Templars be rounded up and imprisoned. The Knights were accused of numerous crimes including heresy and treason. Philip IV had borrowed huge sums of money to finance his war with England. A terrible king and a worse military commander, Philip was easily defeated. He saw destroying the Templars as a way of both currying favor with the Pope and eliminating his huge debt This event was then credited as the moment in history for the cultural birth of the unlucky Friday the 13th. This could however be considered thin reasoning —many other bad things have happened on this date throughout history. The bible is also said to carry the message of this date being an omen of bad luck
