During a Worcester Greenstar Junior 28i yearly gas boiler service call out a small leak was discovered. We found out that the leak came from the water flow turbine adaptor which was replaced in our next visit. This is a very common problem in this Worcester boiler. To prevent the leak to damage the diverter valve motor the manufacturer put a green plastic cover underneath the flow sensor. In this case, the diverter valve motor can survive this leak. This boiler leak can cause hot water temperature drop at the taps. How does this flow sensor work? In short: When you open the tap and the water flow through this flow turbine. Electricity will be produced and send it to the boiler PCB. When the boiler sensing this electricity produced by the flow turbine, the boiler switches on and will heat the water. In this case, the flow turbine leaking but you still have hot water. You can have a temperature drop sometimes, and also you can have poor hot water pressure. Also for the boiler, you need a minimum amount of flow to switch on, so if you have a bigger leak your boiler might switch and you will leave without hot water until a gas engineer will fix the issue. If you found yourself in this situation, give us a call and we can fix this issue within two hours. We specialise in plumbing, heating, gas and boiler installations in North London and the surrounding areas. Also, we found out that the Fan Pressure Test wasn't right. The fan pressure should be higher than -3.9. So, in this case, the heat exchanger needs to be cleaned and the seal needs to be replaced.
