Working on the principles of thermodynamics, our product would provide users the ability to produce electricity when conventional sources are unavailable. Many scenarios exist where this type of product would be useful. One application in particular that we feel the product has the greatest potential is for camping and emergency situations. By utilizing a fire's heat in conjunction with the attached heat sink, a temperature gradient capable of producing 5 volts is easily attainable. The product would be designed so that heat is transferred a short distance away from the fire. This would keep the heat sink far enough from the fire so that it efficiently dissipates the heat, maintaining the necessary gradient. The target 5 volts is enough to charge common electronics employing lithium-ion batteries. This includes cell phones, iPods, PDA's, GPS units, etc. Ideally, the product would be equipped with a USB cable. The ability to connect via USB allows the product be compatible with most recent electronics. It will also help to prevent the product from becoming obsolete in the near future due to the recent trend of utilizing USB as the primary method for charging electronics.
