Playing the bass part with my 1978 Rickenbacker 4001 bass with all original hardware along with the song "Windows" by Kansas from the Vinyl Confessions Album. My Rick is hooked up in the "Rick-O-Sound" jack which splits the outputs of each pickup. The tail pickup is plugged into a Line 6 Spider III emulating an old Marshall Plexi. The neck pickup is plugged into a Genz-Benz NEOX400 2x10 combo amp. This amp has both a solid state channel plus an independent tube channel. I'm running both channels in parallel. Setting your 4001 up in this manner will get you that Chris Squire, Dave Hope, Geddy Lee, Dug Pinnick bass sound. Of course the gain levels and blending of both amps will vary depending on your taste and the bass sound you are emulating. If enough interest is shown...I will post a "How To" video regarding my 4001, plus my other 4, 5, 6. & 12 string basses in the hopes that other bassists will see how some of the "tricks of the trade" are done and just how much tonal expression using both a guitar amp along with a bass amp will give you to work with.
