Don’t worry High School Musical Fans, the FBI is hot on the tail of whoever leaked those naughty photos of Vanessa Hudgens. And it looks like she’s not alone. The same ring of hackers targeted 50 big name female celebs like Scarlett Johansson, Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus and Christina Aguilera to just name a few.
TMZ broke the story and explains how the cases were linked together.
“The Vanessa Hudgens people didn't know about Scarlett Johansson. The Scarlett Johansson people didn't know about Vanessa Hudgens. But we know about both.”
The Today show spoke with a computer security expert and former prosecutor about the consequences of such dirty crime.
“If you just break in to somebody’s computer or their email system just to read their email, that’s considered a minor crime. But if you do it because you wanna make money off of it or you want to gain fame or notoriety that’s a much more serious crime.”
A writer for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution wonders about the hackers’ motivations.
“The hackers’ motivation appears to be ‘the thrill and challenge – not money.’ I bet they’re all 14.”
Radio talk show host Carlos Diaz spoke with HLN - suggesting that Vanessa Hudgens’ story may be a cautionary tale.
Carlos Diaz: “Hold on, I need to delete all the naked pictures of me on my phone real quick.”
Host: “Who keeps naked photos of themselves on their own phone?”
Diaz: “It's crazy because in today's digital age everything is out there for people to see and the sad thing about are the Vanessa Hudgens case these were taken years ago. You take a photo and it lives forever.”
TMZ reports the ring might have also targeted high profile athletes and politicians as well. That has not yet been confirmed by the FBI.
