The world’s most famous board game just got bigger and faster. In the first-ever tournament of its kind, reigning U.S. champion, Matt McNally from Las Vegas, NV challenged players from seven states to compete in a fast-playing game of Monopoly: The Mega Edition at The Pier Shops at Caesars in Atlantic City. The competitors were selected from the seven states added to the game board: California, Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey and South Carolina. And one additional player was selected to play via a drawing in Atlantic City.
The tournament kicked off with an exciting start as finalists built skyscrapers, purchased properties with $1,000 bills and utilized bus tickets to move across the board – all features unique to Monopoly: The Mega Edition. And with the addition of a Speed Die, game play was fast and furious, with the tournament concluding in under 90 minutes.
As a symbol of the game’s characteristics, the tournament winner received $1,000 and a skyscraper trophy.
