Despite your best efforts to stay safe, there may be times when you are confronted with someone intent on doing you harm. Avoiding unlit or deserted areas may not be enough to ensure that you are adequately protected, but there are things you can do to protect yourself even in the face of a threatening situation. Just because your physical safety is threatened does not mean that you have to end up becoming a victim, and learning a few good self defense tactics can actually save your life. While you can increase your level of safety by being aware of your surroundings, remaining calm is another way to set yourself up to successfully escape a physically threatening situation. Effective self defence moves do not have to involve carrying any sort of weapon, and your calm but forceful actions may be enough to diffuse an unsafe encounter. Simple and controlled movements can be deceptively effective, even against someone who is much bigger or stronger than you. If you react quickly and with purpose, your assailant may be distracted long enough for you to escape and seek help as needed.
